Hang in there new me....this is a rough patch. I am home now had surgery on Wed and discharged on Friday. I have been vigilant with my Fluid and Protein intake but can only get in 40 gms a day. I was told to do a max of 4 oz when I consume but to make sure I get protein and good hydration. It's been a balancing act and has been all consuming. I initially wanted to stop my rx pain meds but cant. My incision sites hurt when I move and I still have swelling especially late afternoon. So I have just starting staying on schedule with my dosing. But I know each day it gets better and this too shall pass. Well wishes and easy recovery!

My dr has me not eating meat for 6 weeks. His diet is longer than my friends whose seeing another dr. So instead of liquid diet for 2 weeks, he has liquid diet for 3 weeks. Umm yeah... I'm not going to make 3 weeks. I'm starvin! Anywho she tried meat about 3-4 weeks out and it also wasn't her friend. However she waited another week and now she eating steak. Oh how I wish I could eat steak, and mash potatoes.. Ugh

Other than the anesthesia keeping me fuzzy feeling, I've done great by the surgery (Apr 17th). I've lost 20 lbs as of today, too!

Well I don't eat any seafood,.so I've tried chicken twice and pork- neither agreed.

I'm also not a Greek yogurt fan but may try a different yogurt with no chunks. Egg whites and cottage cheese have been fine- trial and error I guess.

I think longer on the soft / liquid is a better idea. Ill just go back on that until 'real food' agrees.

I also had surgery on the 25th and stayed longer because my white blood cells were high and my heartbeat was low. Thankfully Im ok now and home. I was starving after the surgery coming off of the anesthesia and grumpy my stomache still growls but my head is telling me not to eat. I'm sore and still trying to drink all my fluids. A couple of times I've gotten depressed so I just get up and walk around outside. Try to surround yourself with loved ones and try not to seclude yourself.

Im still on Full liquids, too, for 3 weeks. When I want to chew, I eat Campbell's Bean and Bacon Soup. The soft Beans in it can be chewed up really soft before swallowing. Beans=protein, too. It satisfies my urge to eat chewy food without making me sick. I know I'm cheating, but I couldn't go three weeks.

I started with a scrambled egg. It's on the Puréed Diet list. It took me 1/2 hour to eat 1/2 of 1. Now, I can eat a whole boiled egg in about 20 minutes and I feel great! I know I'm not ready to eat meat yet, but when I am, I am so looking forward to taco meat!

YAHOO! I had surgery on the 23rd and just got my drain and staples out. Yippee! No seriously, walking around with a drain hanging out of your gut is a real downer. Real downer. Sucks actually. I am still having a few issues with eating - like pain and burping bubbles when I eat or drink. I am hoping these subside when I can actually regulate my Protein & Water intake a little better. Plus I think swelling has something to do with it. I am getting a good 50 of protein daily with 2 shakes. I try to get 48 in water, but lets be honest, water still sort of hurts going down. Especially on an empty stomach. I am getting better by carrying around my water all day and sipping every 10-20 minutes. It will get better......it will get better.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
