I will speak to my doctor as well, but I am wondering what other ladies are taking in regards to birth control? I need to try and stay away from any that have estrogen hormones (because of my PCOS and increased risk for blood clots) and I'm not sure what my options are. I would prefer a pill, but would consider other options if they would be better. Thanks in advance!

I really like the injectable birth control sticks (implanon, nexplanon). They inject it right under the skin in your arm and it is good for 3 years. My gyno says that weight gain is minimal as well. Everybody is different, but last time I was on implanon (I'm on nexplanon right now which is the same thing, basically) I never had a period, which was great! It is progestin based so you don't have to worry about estrogen. Here is a link to the nexplanon website:

http://www.nexplanon-usa.com/en/consumer/index.asp?WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=CODENX00Q&MTD=2&CPN=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=nexplanon&utm_campaign=Nexplanon+Branded+2012&MTD=2&ENG=1&CPN=2&ADG=3

I hope that this helps and that you are able to find a good solution!

You look very young so my solution might not work for you. I love my Mirena IUD. It lasts years. Your periods become lighter. It excretes progesterone and I don't know how that would work with you issues.

I had never heard of the birth control sticks before! It looks like Mirena could also be an option. Thanks for the recommendations!

I can't use hormonal b/c either.

We use condoms and spermicide. We've also used a diaphragm and spermicide in the past. Condoms are just faster and disposable, so I prefer them.

I use the Paragard IUD. No hormones at all. I've had it for 5.5 years (it's good for 10 years) and it's been great! I'll never go back to hormonal BC again.

I agree I have the Paragaurd too and it's been 7 years and I'm loving it. Unfortunately it gets under utilized.. LMAO!!! Better safe then sorry. I'm definitely going to need it to prepare to be a trophy wife in training!

I have a Mirena - had it for almost 4 years now, so time to start thinking about replacement options (good for 5 years). I haven't had many issues - just some off-cycle spotting once in a while.

I am on Yaz & I never had to stop taking it. They gave me heparin in the hospital, and I had to miss one day due to surgery. The birth control battle that I went through turned out to be a non-issue. I had mirena once & it was a disaster. I tried nuvaring & it was not for me at all. My Dr wouldn't do implanon due to possible device complications.

I am going to start yas. I was meant to start now but would of had to stop 1 week pre op. are you liking it? I hate birth control normally but that one looks ok.

I have been on it for over a year. It makes my period really short & light compared to when I'm not on it. I also don't get the side effects with it that I get on other bcp.

I have an implant - nexplanon in my left arm- in the fatty area. It was put in with local anesthesia and I love it it. It's good for three years. My period had gone away or is super lite and requires no maintenance. Some planned parenthoods place it for free.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
