I'm almost 5 weeks post op and afraid to eat. Don't get me wrong, I eat, but its a painful experience for me. I'm on mushy foods right now. By the time I get full (usually 4 to 5 spoonfuls) my stomach is already going through horrible pain. Did anyone go through this through the early stages?

Have you spoken to your surgeon and/or nutritionist about it? I'm 116 days post op, not having that kind of problem- but I do notice that when I eat soft foods (ad opposed to liquids) I have to take smaller bites, chew it until mushy, and eat slower or I feel over full and start burping a lot. I can't eat the same quantity of soft food before feeling full either.?

You don't want to eat until your "full"... If u feel full, it's too late! Stop once the hungry feeling is gone...then u should be ok. It will get better!

I think you have to try to eat much slower and take smaller bites and wait let your stomach get it sometimes it seem as though the food has hit the stomach but it has to signal the brain as well .. Try that for awhile ..I kno it's hard to eat slow I'm at work and everyone is finished and I'm just taking my time in between bites I get on my phone and surf the Internet

Thanks everyone! I think I need to start eating slower as well. I really have a hard time with that, still adjusting. I used to eat extremely fast until I was very full. It's a process but ill get there.

I am on softs and still learning how to recognize the satisfied signal. I also struggle with the issue of measuring what I 'think' is a correct amount and if I get to satisfied before the food is gone, being ok with stopping then. It still feels wrong to 'waste' food. A couple of times, I have had that one bite too many and felt some pain behind the breastbone. The good thing about that is that it is a teaching tool.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
