I have noticed that a lot of people are having to do a pre-op diet for a couple weeks prior to surgery. My surgeon only requires a soft/liquid diet the day before surgery and that's all. Did anyone else no have to do the 2 week diet?

Don't answer questions with a question. I'm glad you're happy. But our friend, drea0325, still doesn't have an answer. So, my response will be at least as valid as yours. :)

I haven't been even sleeved yet, much less gone on a post-op diet. However, there is a ton of content on this site. If you are to survive wls, it's time to learn how to navigage this site. There are plenty of answers to your question ... just look!

Every doctor has different protocols some believe in pre op diets some don't..

It can even be different from patient to patient.

You really can't compare there are so many variables

My doctor didn't put me on one at all either, I was only told not to eat after 7 or drink after midnight the day before. But I started to try and eat better the week before on my own, I didn't do a liquid diet but I had a Protein drink for Breakfast and a Protein based lunch&dinner.

Thanks slimmingdani. Seems like our doctors have similar post-op schedules. ..I know the post-op diet is supposed to shrink the liver so I was curious as to whether the diet had any effect on how the surgery went.

He told me after that I had a very small liver, I do know that the smaller it is the easier the surgery is because they won't have to lift it to perform the surgery.

Geez... Welcome to VST!

Funny, I just read an old post toady that talked about people asking old questions that had already been asked. Has it been asked and answered on this site before? Yes, probably a few times over. Does that mean she can't put herself out there and ask the question and get her toes wet? It is her very first post!!! You're going to have a lot of questions at a lot of different points along this journey. Some you'll search for and some you'll want to talk to people about. Don't let people discourage you from reaching out!!

With that said, I have heard of a lot of people who have had no pre-op diet and a lot of people who have had month long pre op diets!! But I'm with Kristen... I wouldn't ask too many questions about it (to your SURGEON she means) and just enjoy your lucky break!! ;)

And welcome to VST!

Wow...1st post and I will now be deleting my profile. Thank u to the 1 person that actually didn't mind chiming in to talk to me about what I wanted to talk about! As for those that apparently think I don't know how to use a forum correctly all I have to say is...wow...

There was only one negative response! Everyone else was being supportive! Don't let one bad response ruin your experience here. There is a lot of very valuable information!!

I thought I gave an answer... Sorry :P

Lol girl! I'm still trying to figure out who's fighting with who, so I can pick a side :P

I think what we have here is just some plain old miscommunication... I'm not sure if anybody here meant to be mean.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
