My surgery was on the 15th at approx. 12 pm. Went home at 9 pm on the 16th. I could not get comfortable in bed last night ....arm was hanging off the side and woke up at 5 am with a my arm full of Fluid from hanging off the bed lol. This first day hasn't been so bad but trying to get in my Protein and fluids. I tried Isopure drink with40 grams of protein but it tastes sooooooo bad. Even with holding my nose. Do not buy this.....I had grape. Hey maybe the other flavor s are better but geezzzz. Jus say in'. I am now trying nectar cappiciano. It is way better but a little on the sweet side.

I am struggling to get liquids in at all. My mid back and chest still hurt so bad. My surgeon said that it could be spasms as they are common with this surgery. I just can't get easy and right now I am questioning why I did this. Need some prayers please!

I had my surgery on april10th!! Congrats to all of us. How are you finding everything? I'm not into the Protein Shakes at all and it's hard trying to get everything in, how about you?

I had my surgery on the 10th as well. Spent two nights in the hospital, came home the 12th. I started on full liquids on the 14th. So far, so good. I'm just really tired and I have these giant bruises from the shots of anti-coagulants they gave me. My incisions are also sore, and one of them (I'm assuming the main one) is the worst, especially as it's directly next to one of those giant bruises.

Here's a trick with the Protein - it's easier once you start on the full liquids. Make everything with "double strength milk" - skim milk mixed with nonfat dry milk. That boosts the protein content considerably. Make your shakes, your puddings, your cream of wheat, etc. with that. When you make cream Soups, sprinkle a teaspoon of the dry milk or unflavored Protein Powder in with that. When you make cream of wheat, mix in a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon protein powder - yummmy!!!!

Just remember, this is a new phase in your life. Your tastes are going to have to adjust. Protein Shakes are not going to taste like pizza and donuts, and this is GOING to be a rough ride for a little while. But don't skimp on the protein, because you absolutely need it to heal properly.

I'm lucky enought to have health insurance and to be able to take a month off with pay through my disability insurance, so I'm doing exactly what the doctor ordered and I'm resting, resting, resting. I get up and walk whenever I can, five minutes at a time, stretch my legs, etc. This is very important to avoid clots.

For those looking for a good protein powder, I recommend Synergy's Bariatric Fusion, which you can buy online. It has 27 grams of protein in one scoop and comes in a million different flavors (if you're a coffee fan the Cappuccino flavor is really delicious if you blend it with ice). If you want something less expensive, the Pure Protein that you can buy in the store isn't too bad, and it's very high in protein as well.

Stay away from Muscle Milk. The regular has too much sugar, and the light version tastes like liquid plastic. Super nasty.

Happy healing!!

I had my surgery on April 10th as well. I'm doing well and I'm able to get in 60 grams of Protein and 54-64 ounces of Water daily. My big incision on the left side is still really painful. I can't wait until I'm fully healed. Oh, I'm tired of protein shakes too, but they are necessary.

I had my sleeve on March 1 2013. I have lost 37 lbs. The best Protein Shake I have tried is from GNC. Its wheybolic amplified Protein chocolate flavored. Mix with low fat milk and a few ice chip. Tastes like a choc milk shake. Sometimes I freeze it in small containers and eat it like ice cream. It had 60 gms of protein in one shake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
