What Bougie Size Does Your Surgeon Use?

Recommended Posts

....My surgeon says she'll use a 32. Curious if this is a popular/successful size? I didn't think to ask her at the time. What size did you have, or will you have? Thanks!

Ok here we go again.... :)

The bougie sizes are used as a guide for the doctor when removing your stomach. As far as getting a "bigger" or "smaller" sleeve the difference between the ALL bougies sizes are really very small..

Your doctor will know what is right for you!

Everyone's stomachs are different some are small, some are long so even two people using the same size bougie can have different capacities after..

And as far as "getting one as small as you can"

If your stomach is made to small there is a greater chance of long term problems.

Girls, do not worry about bougie sizes!

Double hell yeah. There has been absolutely no correlation between smaller bougies and more weight loss. Not to mention that each surgeon sows differently, so he could use the world's smallest bougie but still sow loosely and your sleeve will be larger. Even the largest sleeve is so small that it can never be used as an excuse not to lose the weight. Your behaviors have way more affect on the outcome and your prospects for success.

My surgeon uses a 40F and frankly it doesn't really matter the size what matters is what you choose to put in it afterwards.

Thanks for explaining. I never heard my doctor talk about a bougie and I don't remember reading about one either.

Some docs don't even use one.

It's good to hear that the increments between bougie sizes is comparatively small. I wasn't concerned so much about my sleeve being too big, but more that it might be too small and restrictive to get enough in!

Thanks folks, this helps ease yet ANOTHER pre-op worrying spell. Can't wait to just do it already!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
