40 French bougie has the lowest leak rate, that is what my surgeon standardly uses. Postop was smooth, no vomiting, no dehydration, sliming only if I don't do as I should. There are good things that the stomach produces that we need to absorb Vitamins so this seemed to be a great balance to me. Definitely don't want to look like the pale and weak bypass patients with malabsorption.

Well, my appt for my 6 month check up was today. I asked my surgeon the bougie size, he said he doesn't use one, he just uses the endoscope, but it's comparable to the 36 size. And, I asked what percent of the stomach he removed and he told me it's between 66-70 percent that was removed.

Raregold3000 how has your weightloss been since it seems you didn't have as much stomach removed

It depends on technique too. Mine uses a 34 but gives it some slack (about a38) then oversews. I think they all end up about the same and it really drpends on the length.

Her weight loss is on her ticker...

75 pounds! Pretty good in my book!

Yes, weight loss is in my ticker and profile. I did lose 10 lbs pre op, so 65 lbs since surgery on 8-21-12. He said I'm right on track to where I should be. I was just wondering the size of my stomach since I never asked before, which he answered for me today, plus the bougie question. Since I'm not sure what other's restriction is like if they have 75-85 percent of their stomach's removed, I can only say that my restriction is pretty good at just over 6 months out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
