What do you say when you get THAT question??

I have been pretty open about my surgery. There have been very few people that get the reduced portions and exercise, usually it's people that I don't ever see and am really uncomfortable telling them anything medical. ~Mandy

I don't think saying "Eating less and exercising more" is any sort of lie. That's the reason we're losing weight! My band is NOT the reason I've lost over 100 pounds, I am the reason, the band was one of the tools I used. I usually talk their ear off about it anyway and they never ask again.

I don't mind when asked, its flattering to have my hard work noticed....I usually just say "I'm working very hard at losing and its paying off".

Except....I was approached by someone I don't really care that much for ..... he said "wow, look how slim you are.....you almost look NORMAL now"......cripes....he just rubs me the wrong way. I replied "What?????....did you think I was fat and abnormal before?????" He couldn't get away from me fast enough.

My response is pretty much the same thing as the rest..." I'm watching what I eat, eliminating soda and extra sugar from my diet and starting to move more. Thanks for noticing. I'm hoping that THIS time I will actually be able to keep it off." (They have all seen me go up and down over the years...so the new weight loss is nothing new. I am sure they are just all waiting for me to fall off the wagon and balloon up again.)

If it's a close friend I will tell them about my band, but if it's just someone I've met here and there, I tell them I changed my eating habits and don't eat bread and potatoes anymore. It's the truth, LOL.

I tell them that I eat less and more healthy and excercise a lot.and truly said its true, the band is great help I must admitt but if I eat chocolate or icecream or anything that is not very diet then I dont lose and I gain. The band helps me but doesnt do the weight loss.I dont even have any fill I just have to be disciplined and eat less and go to the gym...Im not lying to them when I say I eat less and excercise more Im just not saying another part that I have something that helps me to keep the portions smaller

I tell them I had the lap band surgery, too. Everyone at work knows I had it and they are all very supportive. There are now 4 people banded who work at the school I work at - 1 before me and 2 since me. I'm mentoring the two that went after me. I've had the same experience as Carlene. It's a wonderful thing!

No one knows about my band 'cept my bandster support buddies and my hubby...My nosey mother is starting to be a pain in the ass, so I have told her basically Portion Control and exercise...I told her I literally let myself have two bites of anything I want - which is true. She is toxic and would have been unsupportive if I told her I had the band - and if she found out Mexico, she'd lose her miind!!! My relationship with her and the boundaries we've gotten comfortable with are too important to lose or screw up over the surgery...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
