Chicken broth made me almost puke

Recommended Posts

I'm still on a clear liquid diet after my surgery. I finished all my vegetable broth so I opened my chicken broth and nuked it. It smelled like I was boiling chicken. Gross. But I figured I would taste it. It wasn't bad bit I just couldn't handle the smell. I had to dump it out. So now no broth and I'm still hungry. Can't wait for my visit on Thursday when they bump me up on foods. I think I'm ready.

I completely relate. I bought some Pacific organic, low sodium broth and it was terrible. Smelled god awful. Trying Unjury chicken flavor later today, hoping that is better.

I heard rave reviews about the Unjury chicken broth. So I bought a big canister...big mistake! HATE IT! Let me know your thoughts on it...

I like it. I read a tip to mix it first before heating and I nuked my mug with hot Water first so it would be hot when I poured it in. It's not something I want to drink everyday but it's passable.

I was trying to drink the broth from Campbells Chunky Soup - Hearty chicken. I loved it before surgery, post-op I can't stand it. I switched over to Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken at the end of my 1st week, when I went on full liquids.< /p>

I liked it fine before surgery. After, my sleeve hates it. The smell makes me nauseous.

I could not tolerate the Unjury chicken Soup at first, but now I add 1/4 packet of ramen noodle chicken powder and some pepper. Delicious!

I am the same way with chicken broth. Can't handle it at all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
