mamachef 37 Posted February 27, 2013 Ok so we recently moved and I just had an appointment with my new pcp today and I have a question. He wants to do 3months supervised diet and I'm totally ok with that it could be a lot worse since today is the first day I have met him. Insurance does not have a length of time requirement. Heres the question. Do I do the supervised diet and then all the other appointments BEFORE submitting to insurance or does thw psych eval and NUT appointments happen in the next three months? cartmansnj 105 Posted February 27, 2013 I did the NUT appointments for 6 months. Then I did the psych eval and everything was submitted to my insurance company.
Delena2/11 59 Posted February 27, 2013 If you need your pcp as a referral you wont be able to do the psych etc first. they will want approval. If you don't need a referral I would say go for it and get that ball rolling. I was sleeved Feb 11 and I started that process (no diet needed) in October. Good luck! Momonanomo 534 Posted February 27, 2013 For me.... Once I picked my surgeon I discovered that the NUT and the psych (and the exercise specialist) are all part of his team. If your pcp wants you to do the 3 months supervised with him first, perhaps you could at least do a consult with a surgeon in the meantime....choose your surgeon & find out if he/she has a whole team of people that includes a NUT, etc. They in fact may require that you see their people. Find out first, and that way you won't risk doing something twice....
dust 54 Posted February 27, 2013 definitely talk to the surgeon first as they are the ones who know how to navigate the mess that is health insurance. they might even be able to recommend another PCP who won't require that 3mo supervised diet..
devonmae 56 Posted February 27, 2013 My pcp has nothing to do with my surgery and i have not seen him. The bariatric metabolic institute at my hospital sets up everything. Today i just got a call to set up my appointments and they set them all up for the testing psych NUT and surgeon.
