Paperwork being submitted this week!

Recommended Posts

Woo! Just found out that my paperwork will be submitted to insurance this week, and then I should know 1-2 weeks after that if I'm approved or not. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be approved. I'm going for a revision after a lap band slip, and I did excellent with the band. With the band I lost 110 lbs, and since it's been disconnected I have regained it all back plus some. The surgeon thinks taht I'm an excellent candidate,.

I too am "in the same boat." I had great success with my band until it slipped. My new surgeon said he was going to have his office submit my paperwork . I guess we wait. GOOD LUCK!!!!! Keep in touch! :D

I have to say, I miss being "skinny". I was down to a 14/16 in pants and a 12/14 in dresses and skirts. I had so much more energy. At least now I know what I'm aiming for. And I can't wait to get back in to mud runs. My port gets in the way right now. I've gotten some gnarly bruises from it.

Me too! I went from a size 26 to a 14 and now back up to a 20. My back hurts, I am constantly battling hunger, and the skin around my port is also tender and raised. Moreover, at my heaviest weight I was never as self conscious as I am now. I can't wait to move forward. I wish I had the option of a vertical sleeve prior to having lap-band surgery. I feel like the last four years were such a waste of time and effort.

I don't see the past few years as a waste. More of, I will appreciate it even more. All the little things like crossing my legs, bending over to tie my shoes, being able to go on hikes with out slowing everyone down. And oh yea, not throwing up/ sliming/ getting stuck everyday! Even though My band is disconnected, my stomach will act up as if I still have a slipped band. My surgeon said it is probably scar tissue :/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
