I know I had posted recently about gaining weight when I'm supposed to be losing. I've gained almost 6 pounds in the past 4 days from making some very poor food choices. Pre-op appointment on March 11...and I need to drop the weight and THEN some by that time. I'm so mad at myself for eating all that I did. I feel like I've already failed. It's so easy to say, "oh, I'll just be more careful and watch everything that I eat." Then I do really well for a few days and then screw it all up. The doc(s) will cancel the surgery if I gain weight, even if it's on the surgery day. Anyway, I don't know how to deal. :(

its tricky isn't it?. A relatively short term option might be to ask your doctor if you could consider trying Optifast (?available where you live?) diet Meal Replacements shakes (choc, coffee and strawberry taste good) between now and your appointment. This should shift weight quickly and get body into ketosis, which helps curb your appetite. Fill up on Miso Soup etc in between if too hungry. Really tough for the first 5 days but then you get used to it. This is sometimes recommended pre-surgery (was for me) to reduce abdominal fat in any event.

I am stilll using it as part of my diet now in liquid phase post surgery-I'm now post operative-8 days.

I was told to lose 15 lbs by March 20th or I would have to cancel surgery. Have I been completely good. No. But I have cut back tremendously and I am determined to exercise as much as I can. Losing a few pounds to get surgery to help you is worth more than doing it without it. So you fell down. Get back up! And if even if its delayed, you will still be on the right track! I have been put on a Ketogenx diet. It has taken some time to get used to it, but I came this far, I will keep going. I have paid WAAAYYY to many co-pays to turn back now!

God Bless!

You can do this! You are stronger than your compulsions. That said, Have you tried Myfitnesspal.com? I love this web site cuz it makes it easy to track what you eat (especially if you only have to do it for a short period of time. Keeps you accountable. Its amazing how many calories we consume by just a little nibble here and there. If nothing else, assign an accountable person to help you stay on track.

Refocus. You can do this, think about the big picture and commit to the changes you have to make. Plan out your meals, even if you rely on Protein or weight watchers shakes until your appointment to lose what you need to. It will be the very last crash diet of your life. Keep reminding yourself of your ultimate goal.

It is not easy, but there is an end in sight. You just have to do everything you can to get there. I do not regret one single day of preparing for the surgery. And could not be happier since.

You have done the right thing, look for support. Well, you've got it.

YOU CAN DO THIS. Keep telling your self that.

The surgery itself is not a quick fix. It is only a tool. Post sleeve is work and you need to commit to the changes now for it to be as effective as it can be. The rewards are worth it.. YOU are worth it.

Taking my cheerleader suit off now. :)

Good luck!!

I understand completely where you are coming from. I have to lose 15 pounds prior to my surgery. I weighed this morning and am 4 pounds within the goal. I was thinking what if my appt is in the afternoon for my pre-op when surgery is scheduled. I weighed this afternoon and weight 3 pounds more. I know our weight fluctates throughout the day. I know I need a morning appt for my pre-op (hahahaha). I have been doing premium Protein for Breakfast and lunch then a small healthy supper. I have been losing about 2 pounds per week. So slow coming off compared to what I am putting in my mouth. I have been eating my 70-80 grams protein per day and not cheating. I still am having a hard time. I received a call to advise my information is being sent to insurance. She asked if I had lost the 15 pounds yet (only been 4 weeks since my weigh in). I told her if I weigh in the a.m. I am about 3-4 pounds away. She told me even if I am 1 pound away then I must do the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I will keep trucking along to lose those additional pounds. I have set myself a goal to lose 19 pounds so I have so room in case I weigh in the afternoon.

If you need to drop it, the liquid pre open diet may be what you need to try. It's really not THAT bad. I am on day 4 of liquid pre open diet and had lost 6 lbs this morning!

We have all been there. It is extremely hard to stay on a diet, that's why they don't work. What I did to lose my weight pre op was replaced two meals with Protein Shakes, had 3 100 calorie Snacks a day and a dinner with less then 500 calories in it. It worked for me very well, I ended up losing 28 pounds in a month and a half. Good luck!

Thank you, everyone. @Havaneseday, yeah I use Myfitnesspal.com, and it's great when I use it. The past few days though I didn't use it at all and I'm really kicking myself for it. I think I'll give the Protein Shake replacement thing a try. I just want more self control; then again if I had it in the first place I wouldn't need the surgery. @Jerseygirl68, thank you, you're a great cheerleader!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
