Why does it hurt so much

It's pretty painful. It's so much relief when it's out.

Are you experiencing pain with it or is it removed already?

If its the later I would call my surgeon and let them know.

I didn't think it was real painful just very uncomfortable!

It's different for everyone, pain wise. Mine hurt pretty bad if I was moving around, it was the worst part of the procedure for me. But it was managable. I think it can hurt or be uncomfortable because it's (1) foreign in your body and (2) it can move around.

Just speculation though.

Try not to think about it. Perhaps you will not have one or need one.

It didn't hurt me at all. It wasn't even uncomfortable, just a little awkward.

mine hurt pretty bad, when I went for my checkup 2 days after surgery I was told to not compress the JP quite as much as I had been because it might be causing a little irritation, and sure enough, when he pulled the little plug and let some of the pressure off, it did feel marginally better. I wasn't totally happy till I got the darn thing pulled out though.

How long does it stay in?

Mine was taken out at the hospital after the second night and just before I was released. It appears different doctors have different time frames.

Why does it hurt so much

I had two drains in my back when I had a spinal fusion a couple of years ago. They didn't hurt, per se, but were just sort of odd feeling. It didn't hurt when the Dr removed them, either...just a pulling sensation from a place you aren't used to feeling it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
