I am a bit concerned I have not scheduled surgery but I am concerned about when I do schedule what the pain is like after surgery.I have three children and they are very needy. I really don't have much support I shall say so basically I don't want my family tell me I told you so. Because even with being overweight. They are against the surgery. Can somebody please explain to me what the pain is like after surgery and what should I be expecting?!

Thanks.

Pain after surgery wasn't too bad, just sore. I would suggest walking right away it helped me.im 2 weeks out n I just started sleeping in my bed this weekend.

It's surgery, you will have some pain. For me, I had trouble getting in bed by myself the first few days. My pain is localized to one specific area where the doctor sutured the muscle. However staying up on my pain meds helps. Walking helps with the general gas pain. If possible, have a friend or family member stay with you for the first few days. You will not be able to lift your children for several weeks. Best of luck.

It's very bearable...I was only off 2 weeks from work...and was right back to it...on my feet 9 hours a day.

While your in the hospital is when your worst pain will be. Everyday that goes by it gets way better. The most important thing to do is walk as soon as you can. And when you get to drink make sure to sip sip sip sip and sip some more. I would say in all from worst pain to no pain at all was about a week.

I can't say the pain was bad at all. I had pain meds in the hospital, but it was because they were giving them to me, not because I asked for them. I went home the next day and never took any pain meds again. It's really quite tolerable. Some soreness, but nothing awful. Granted, everyone is different, but they will give you pain meds to take home if you have a lot of pain. Just remember and I know a lot of folks will agree, it literally does get better every single day!

Good luck! It's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Thanks guys. I am very eager to get this procedure done. Again, I am just concerned

About the pain. I am allergic to Percocet and

Never really have taking anything stronger than a Motrin. ( lol). I have had 2 c sections. Can this be compared to that??!

I have 4 kids, all young, oldest 11 and youngest is 6 so I totally relate to your concerns. I will tell you I had 1 vaginal delivery and 3 sections so I thought I was an expert in pain management-this pain was far worse than I ever expected. Do not under estimate the help you will need at least for the first few days home. Plan on having rides ahead of time for the kids to all activities. If possible have someone come over to do laundry and grocery shop for the kids meals. Also, a few days before surgery stock up on broth and Protein Shakes and get your pain meds before you leave! The gas pain in my shoulder was almost unbearable and the nausea was horrific for days. You'll be weak and want to sleep a lot so try and find a way to have some support in place, it really is a big deal, you will need help. Good luck!

You should ask your doctor if he is going to leave a drain in. For me that was the worst part of post-op. I am 13 days out.

I agree the drain causes much discomfort. Some drs do not use one, you can ask.

Even if he does, you can manage. Remember to take your pain meds on time. ( something your not allergic to) and do not plan on driving for about 7-14 days.

You've had kids and delivered babies... Girl you can do this ;)

Moms are strong :)

If you are allergic to Percocet (oxycodone) you could try Vicodin (hydrocodone). Same for if someone has a codeine allergy.

But they both have codeine so wouldn't you still be allergic?

I would ask about tramadol or dialudid

If you make sure to tell them about your medicinal allergies then they'll give you something to cover the pain that won't cause an allergic reaction. Best of luck to you! :)

Thanks for all the good advice. I just heard back from my docs office. They stated as soon as they get the report from Psych it will be submitted to insurance. Ill be looking at a date around April. I was hoping for March but is okay.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
