Had. 4 saltines...ugh

Recommended Posts

I had 4 saltines last night, I'm only two weeks out. Do you think I'll be ok?

It's not recommended, but I am mostly sure it won't mess you up. Might make you uncomfortable. There are better alternatives that will assist in the healing process and not compromise your surgical seam.

You will be fine. Try and keep your diet going in the right direction. Good luck, when you get a craving or hungry drink a Protein Shake.< /p>

My surgeon permits crackers and pretzels at two weeks out. As long as you chew them to a paste they should not hurt you. But carbs like that often don't feel good and feel stuck. Maybe just one cracker to start the next time you want one. I am in sympathy with you. I REALLY wanted a cracker by two weeks out. I ate one and had no ill effects. I eat one with my cheese sometimes.

Why at two weeks out would you even think of having 4 saltines, or one? This surgery is a big committment, don't do something that may harm your new tummy. I am sure that a leak is no fun.

I am sure you will be fine, saltines turn to mush. At about 3 weeks I recall letting about 3 cheezits melt in my mouth. you are human! just keep to your guidelines as much as possible until you are healed.

As always, listen to your surgeon ( had to say that). However, I am only 12 days post op and my surgeon has cleared me to have anything I can tolerate with the exception of salad which he said we will discuss at my next appt in a month. So, in my opinion, a few saltines aren't going to kill you.

I am also allowed saltines 2 weeks out. Just take small bites and chew chew chew. I started out with two with my cheese, but four may have you feeling too full.

Physically I'm sure you'll be fine. Mentally, ask yourself why you are already sabotaging your success and a healthy recovery. Why don't you believe you deserve either?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
