Are You Buying Anything Special?

Recommended Posts

Aside from a food scale and measuring cups, have y'all seen any other tools that might be useful post-op? Today the Hubs and I went shopping and I was amazed to see how much a measuring cup of 1/4 cup of food is. Crazy!

I'm planning to get a magic bullet a couple of weeks after surgery. I've heard mixed reviews, though so I'm not completely sold. Have any experience with those?

I bought a cute four piece set of "condiment" bowls for my food so it doesn't look ridiculous in regular bowls they are 4oz so it makes it easy to use

And a set of demitasse spoons and forks

I did buy a magic bullet for my purée stage( it worked fine even with meat) but I don't really use it anymore... My son loves it thought and if you using powder Protein it would be handy ( I buy pre made shakes)

The bowls are the best buy and spoons I still use them after 3 months. :)

Where did you buy the demitasse spoon & fork set at, if you don't mind my asking? I saw one somewhere before and didn't save the link. Googling it just brings up the spoon/saucer combo. :(

I got lucky and found mine at kohls around the holidays. A lot of people buy baby spoons and forks those are probably easier to find.

If you look under appetizer spoons and forks places like crate and barrel carry them and small bowls too!

(White mini prep bowls)

I got the Ninja Pulse. It whips up shakes and frozen drinks, and it also food processes. It comes with 3 tumblers, sip lids, the blade for the tumblers, a bigger mixer pitcher, and a lot of other junk. I have had a Magic Bullet for a couple years and it recently broke. I decided to go ahead go with the Ninja. Both work well. The Ninja just has some featured the MB didn't.

Funny, I saw the Ninja yesterday and told my husband that maybe we should get that instead of the Magic Bullet. Still thinking about it. Do you like it better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
