I've taken to 100% whole wheat bread thins and crackers. Not too bad and keeps the glycemic index low. You should be able to eat bread sparingly after you are off softs. Still most of my diet is Proteins and produce....I really don't have much room to add bread into the mix.

Thanks Matthew. I also can't get much in but I have been craving it! Have no idea why since I have never been a big bread eater so I would like to at least get a bite in to make the craving, hopefully, go away.

Some of it is psychological, but much is metabolic. We've completely revamped our GI system...hormonal adjustments, portion sizes...it's really a shock to the body and takes a while to level out. Stick to Proteins and produce for the rest of your life....you will adjust as we are...but we get cravings too. For instance, god knows why, I was craving the oddest thing the other day...pickled herring in sour cream, I just wanted something vinegary. Never once before had a craving for vinegary foods so it was odd. But, I went out and bought some....enjoying it in small amounts (watch your calories as always). We're all different.....just FYI, try things in small bits...low and slow. Keep track of your activities and calories and share with your nutritionist anytime. And if you catch yourself in old unhealthy habits...acknowledge it and share with others for support/motivation. Best of luck.

I am a month out and from time to time recently I have had a little bit but I have had very little inflamation in my sleeve so you kind of have to use your own judgment on whether or not you can handle it, and I would NOT have more than maybe an ounce and a half if you can eat it, because it will blow your carb count away

I am 6 months out and I think at 4 months out I got some natures own multi grain 100 calories English Muffins and only ate 1/2 of one. I spread a thin layer of Peanut Butter and sugar free strawberry preserves on it, heated it for a few seconds and it made my mouth Water and was so yummy!

I am 3 months out and still no room for bread. I can only seem to eat carbs if they are crunchy like a few wheat thins. I have started making chicken salad or tuna salad for lunch and can eat it on half a sandwich thin that has been toasted to a crisp.

I am 6 1/2 weeks out and I have only had bread once. It was whole wheat toasted very good and I could only eat a1/2 of a 1/2 after eating my egg. You eat your Protein first, then a few bites of veggies if I'm lucky and then I'm full. So bread just doesn't fit. Instead I eat crackers with chili and tuna etc...

7 weeks out - No bread, but I can do a very small low-carb/high Fiber tortilla grilled/crispy as a quesadilla.

I'm 2 months out. Yesterday my mom took me to Red Lobster. I got some steamed crab legs, very lean Protein, very delicious. But those darned cheddar bay biscuits kept calling my name. Long story short...I ate half of one and immediately regretted it. bread just seems to sit like lead on my stomach. So from now on, I'm strictly eating protein and produce!

Oh gosh, I have been watching the lobster commercials, but then I think of those cheddar biscuits too:( I will go to costco and get a lobster tail instead:)

Do take out. My husband orders a meal and adds on snow crab legs for me. All I want

Is the crab anyway. He doesn't eat bread so we just tell them to leave the biscuits behind.

Should have taken my own advice. My husband made me scrambled eggs for dinner and he put a piece of toast on the side. I ate it last and thought it would be okay since it was toasted. I ate about 3 bites and then started sliming. Threw up a little but not all of it. I think the bread was acting as a stopper and I would probably have felt better if I could have gotten it all up. I'll probably wait another month to try again

I didn't eat any until about 4 weeks out. Not for any one reason except it wasn't in the house. I was focused on getting my Protein and vegs. My mom served some garlic bread with spaghetti and I ate a piece over 30 minutes. I didn't have any problems.

A few weeks later I had a whole wheat bread sandwich, it did cause some stomach rumblings but nothing else. I don't know if it was the bread or the piece of lettuce that caused the issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
