McDonald's Fries, Oh My!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else face food challenges? I'm talking about seeing, smelling and being around food we can no longer eat.

Here are some foods I somehow found the willpower to resist (BUT wished I could have indulged!):

* McDonald's fries and Shamrock shakes

* buttered popcorn at the movies

* icy cold Diet Coke

I'm totally missing all fast food and all kinds of different flavors of popcorn, but I'm happy to just smell them and not go in and buy anything. The other day, someone at work made some kettle corn. It smelled delicious, but I wasn't hungry, so I had no desire to go and make some for myself. I just started soft foods and am now finding a new appreciation for foods I normally would rarely eat. Eating slow and chewing well helps me to savor the taste of the foods I can eat. I'm loving my sleeve!

Yes ladies, that was hard!

we made every delicious smelling and tasting morsel by scratch.. (I know they tasted good because my finger accidentally slipped In some orange glaze) :P

He brought one in his lunch yesterday. He came home and said we need to make them for everyone in his class because they all wanted to try it... OH HELL NO :o

You know.. I have found that my tastes have changed so much.. I dont crave those foods anymore.. and certain breads dont like me.. so Im not really into sammichs.. and I can only eat a half of one anyway.. on the wheat bread.. with some good Protein meat.. but even then.. im not drawn to them.. I eat tuna.. and chicken mostly.. but not really craving fast food.. im afraid to eat it cuz im afraid of not liking them anymore like I have so many other foods.. ive become a very picky eater.. never thought that would happen.. but that is a very good thing.. very very good..

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
