Hi there! :banana

My name is Lori, I live in Dover, NH, I just turned 20 y/o, and I currently weigh 278 (BMI: 49). I'm not sure the exact date that I will be having the Lap Band implanted, but I am sure it will be sometime this year. My surgeon, Dr. Looser, will be able to tell me when the surgery date is, once I finish up some blood work and group meetings.

This looks like a nifty place to chit chat, so I think I'll be sticking around a while!

Hi Lori,

Wow, another youngster!! You're in such a great place in your life to be doing this; I know you'll do extremely well with the band.

It does my heart good to see young people gravitating to the band instead of bypass surgery. It seems a no-brainer to go with the less-invasive procedure when someone is really just recently an adult. I wish more doctors agreed.

Welcome to the board and we look forward to hearing about your progress. Nice to meet you!! :) :) :D

Lori: Welcome Welcome. I second Alex's statement of wishing more young people would come to the band instead of bypass. Makes so much more sense to me anyway. LOL!!

Anyway, welcome and visit often. Glad to have you aboard.

Lori, the very best of luck to you! You'll have a lot less problem with saggy, baggy skin than I do. You probably don't have your first gray hair yet!

Thank you all for the kind words and introductions!

I am looking very forward to the procedure, and me being so young will probably work to my advantage! I am choosing the Lap Band over the Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass, because the Band can be removed if there is a problem. If there is something wrong w/ the Roux-En-Y, there is very little that can be done, in ways of reversal. The comfort of knowing that the Band can be reversed is a sense of great comfort.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
