March sleevers challenge

Recommended Posts

One of my greatest fears is getting dehydrated after surgery. We are supposed to drink 64 oz/day, but I don't come close even now.

I challenge everyone to start drinking 64 oz of Water a day BEFORE surgery And no, Protein drinks don't count towards the total.

Good luck!

Im lucky in that aspect; I've always been a heavy Water drinker I probably drink (no kidding here) close to 160 ounces in a day at work..I use those flavor packets, but still...

Oh I'm totally in! I used to think that I drank a lot of Water to begin with but the idea of the Protein shakes/poweders PLUS the water? I have no idea how on earth to get it in without feeling like a hummingbird. But awesome idea to start now! ~eyes the neglected bottle of water on my desk~ Well, maybe in a minute. lol

I share your fear. I never drank Water pre op. I drank tea while out to eat, and almond milk with dinner on regular days. One of my past doctors said one of the reasons I never was thirsty was because I was dehydrated all the time, that the state I was in was chronic and made me lose my thirst. Well I am very worried now, because the 2 glasses of ice tea I would of drank pre op, once or twice a week, now seems impossible. Never mind 64 ounces of Water daily. The IV fluids they gave my after surgery alone made me gain 4 pounds in water weight in 2 days! I had not even had approval to have ice chips or low sodium broth yet, and I was 4 pounds heavier then my weight before being wheeled to the OR. I had to urinate every 20 minutes for days. So I am counting Protein shakes as part of my Fluid intake, because it is made of water. I am working hard to reach the goal, but I know it will take a long long time to get there, for as you said, even pre op I could not deliberately force myself to consume that amount.

Sleeved on the 4th

I drank 64 oz of Water before I was even up for four hours, got almost half that again already. Water is not my problem. I absolutely can't get my Protein in. I have several cases of Pure Protein Ready To Drink shakes that I now cannot stand to drink, no matter how I mix it up. Two spoonfuls of thinned creamy chicken Soup (no chicken) and I have to stop. I'm not getting more than a couple of hundred calories a day and am just a little worried. I have tried everything from SF puddings, SF Jello and everything else allowed for the first week post op (sleeved March 5th) Tomorrow I start puréed foods. I dunno, maybe that will be better? First thing I'm gonna try is some refried Beans. I sit home alone, healing. My day consists of trying to get a good night's sleep (still not easy), and I watch TV all day and walk my dogs three times a day for 15 minutes each. My husband is away skiing until Saturday. I mean, I'm just not hungry, it doesn't feel like I've basically only had water all day. But when I leave the house tomorrow (I have to do some shopping), I still think my head hunger is going to take over.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
