Sick of the attention

Recommended Posts

from the replies you are getting' date=' apparently there are people with your feelings about not liking all the attention concerning you weight loss - and thats fine, those are your thoughts

I know all those years past i would get plenty of attention - bad attention - concerning my being overweight :(

now i am down 100 lbs - GOAL

do i feel embarrassed, shy, quiet et al when people come up to me complimenting about my appearance and weight loss????

No way!!!! i feel great!! Can't get enough of those great comments :)

sooooo, anyone that receives unwanted compliments about their appearance.....

send them over to me

congrats on loosing 68 lbs - thats terrific :)

continued good luck with your weight loss

btw

you look marrrrrvelous  [/quote']

I agree! I do hate the "so how much weight have you lost" question, I guess because I feel like it puts pressure on me to give out a big number or like hey expect more than what I tell them. Other than that I love being told how I look like I've lost a lot of weight. I think for me, no, I know for me if no one said anything I would be a little sad and think well I thought I was looking good, guess no one else sees it. :)

I think people have good intentions for the most part and want you to know they notice how well you are doing. Just say thank you and let it go :)

I totally agree. I don't think anyone means any harm in acknowledging the weight loss. What I would suggest for those who this bothers is to simply pull them aside and thank them for their support, but tell them that this makes you feel uncomfortable, otherwise it will continue and will annoy you.

For me it doesn't bother me when someone compliments me on my weight loss, if someone asks how much weight I tell them quite a bit, smile and keep on moving.

I honestly find it weirder when co-workers/ extended family DON'T comment on my weight loss .... I have lost a lot of weight previously and it doesn't last long ... The attention is love hate for me as the attention can be overwhelming but I also find it motivating - they adjust to your new weight pretty quickly :) Then you get a new kind of attention - from strangers of the opposite sex!!

I think part of the problem is that we are more than a weight on a scale. I want people to notice me, not my weight. I've tolo my family that the best way to be supportive is to not treat this like a big deal, it's just something I'm doing to be more healthy. I actually find it annoying that personal questions about ones weight are considered acceptable.

I had to laugh reading your response. I feel you.....when I get the people looking for the magic bullet I tell them.....calories vs calories out. The more you eat the more you workout. I never have those same come back twice lol. And I don't feel I am giving them a wrong answer either.

Preop when people would ask for the "secret", I told them I track everything I eat and they'd look at me in disgust and say that was way too much work. Were they honestly expecting me to tell them to eat bee pollen or something?

Mystie I love that response! My surgery is march 20. Everyone in work will see me doing the Protein shakes. After all, every woman in my office is either yo-yo-ing from Protein Shakes, Jenny Craig or weight watchers. So my behaviour will fit right in. I'm just going to say "protein shakes and then i transitioned into an Atkins plan (which is true!). A very small amt of people know about the surgery and I plan on keeping it that way. It's simply no ones business as this is very personal for me I would love to steal your line too about tracking!!

I had a coworker say..so did you lose any weight over the weekend? Weeelll no only during the week I lose. Lol. I agree my weight was my wall..no one paid attention to me..and I liked it that way. I imagine as I will get accustomed to being treated differently..which sad fact skinny people get more respect. But yes..for me its annoying to respond to those who want Sarahs daily weight loss report

I have ignored the " how much have you lost question" every time I have been asked. I think it's like asking a woman in her 50's how old she is...it's rude and it shouldn't be done. Most obese people don't advertise their actual weight on a daily basis....so why would they want to discuss it with others now? If people want to say something it would be better to say your looking good and move on. If we want to offer more info we will.

I always tell the straight out truth .... I don't care what anyone thinks . I'm proud of my sleeve. If they want to judge and say I cheated that's there problem not mine. I will never understand why people lie about getting the surgery , it's nothing to be ashamed of or is it something that I feel I have to hide simply because i dont want to hear negative comments. Just my opinion. I think people will talk more if they know you are lying, knowing that u lost so much weight in such a short amount of time .

i'm brand new and looking forward to my surgery 3/4/13. The only people who know I'm having the VSG are my closest friends and family. It's no one's business how I lose the weight. And if no one knows there will be no expectations and questions like "how much weight did you lose this weekend."

Until I get near my goal weight I will simply tell people "i'm working hard at it" when they ask how I'm losing weight or complimenting me.

A few friends have had the surgery and I know they got kind of sick of people commenting all the time but isn't it better that people support and compliment you rather than think you're too fat? <_<

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
