Pre surgery diet starts tomorrow

Recommended Posts

It is one month to my surgery tomorrow which means its shake time.. It's kinda of exciting to think there is only a month left of living in the hell of being over Weight with no hope..

Sonoma excited I will be able to start my life again and have energy and feel alive again.

I really need to write daily as I know liquid pre op diets are hard so I do need support.

But all worth it in the end. :)

YAY! I've been doing an 800 calorie VLCD since December 3rd and I'm currently on day 7 of my actual 21 day preop. I do get a "lean and green" meal (piece of lean Protein and a salad of greens)which is kind of nice. I DO know how it feels to do all liquids though as I have done that before (both with shakes and I once did a 30 day juice fast) The first few days are SO HARD, sometimes I would just go to bed rather than endure seeing food... but by day four or so you really start feeling better and stop being so hungry. AND, your body is very kind to you since there is a chemical response when you go very low carb and enter ketosis, that releases a chemical similar to the drug xtacy. This feeling often kicks in between days 3 and 7 and can last from several days to a few weeks!!! So DON'T cheat and eat carbs or you'll lose out on this natural high which can really help carry you through the process. I'm super excited for you. I think having a longer preop period is actually a very positive thing as it has really been helping me feel much more mentally prepared for this surgery!

Thanks. It all is very exciting! I can have a salad and grilled chicken at night but I will see how I go cause It cost alot to keep buying portions of chicken and salad every couple of days. I might do Soups for dinner to brake it up.

Only a month till surgery it's so exciting and the thought of if I cheat and don't loose enough before that I will have to push surgery back kinda scares me into staying on track lol

Good luck! You will do great. First three days are the struggle. Only because you want your other foods. ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
