Out of control-prediet

Recommended Posts

I can't stop eating since I scheduled my surgery! Anyone else have this problem? Doc says to try and lose lbs before band on Nov. 29. I just feel so out of control. I have gained weight and feeling down about it. Did anyone else gain on the prediet?

Thanks!

A

Seattle, WA

You are probably feeling like you will never get to eat all your favorite foods again, so you're trying to eat as much of them as you can. You will be able to eat most of the same things if not all of them. Just remember, the more you gain, the more you will have to lose. Some doctors won't do the surgery until you lose the weight either, so you might think about that.

Good luck, and when you feel like eating go for a walk!:biggrin1:

I had a month of 'last suppers' before I was banded. It was a lot like my old pre-banding 'I'll start my diet on Monday' sort of eating when I would totally pig out the weekend before I 'planned' to start dieting, only to fall off the wagon by Wednesday and pig out again until the following Monday.

As crazy as this sounds, I think my 'feeding frenzy' prior to being banded probably served a good purpose, as I ate so much crap that the thought of it was starting to nauseate me even before I had my surgery. (Of course, I was worried that I was going to have a heart attack or a stroke from living in drive-thru heaven for those weeks...but it made me get really, really sick of the things I used to love to eat.)

The good news is that even after having been banded only a little over a month, I do not have the desire for those things anymore. Last night -- for the first time ever in my entire life -- I went to the 'healthy' grocery store on my way home from work and did not buy one single unhealthy thing. This is a total 180 degrees from my pre-banding shopping days. This thing is amazing!

I did the same thing for about two weeks then I had to go on liquid diet for two weeks pre op and I'll tell ya I thought I'd die, but it was the best thing honestly I have adjusted mys tomach has adjusted and now a small bread plate of food fills me and sometimes I can't eat that

My doctor told me that they weigh everyone before surgery and if you gained weight and didn't lose even a little, they cancel the surgery. They put you on either a modified fast of a complete liquid diet (which I had). The week before my liquid diet started, I had a "farewell to food" week where I ate all my favorite things. But then I had a three week liquid diet phase, so I ended up losing 10 pounds before surgery. It was also very good practice in controlling my eating and when I did have my surgery, it was much much easier to do the whole pureed thing because I was already used to a liquid diet and not coming off a week of gorging myself.. Maybe talk to your doctor about going on Optifast before surgery.

I'm scheduled to be banded Dec 11th and my dr will have me do 10 days of liquids - this scares me. I haven't been pigging out really but since my DH is working out of town all week my DD and I have been eating out or ordering in almost every night or we eat real healthy like grilled cheese and Soup. But I don't think I've over ate, just not real healthy. As far as fast food - thats not much of a problem, I don't do them very well anyway. I have IBS (irritable bowel) and it goes right through me. What I will miss is the steak, fries, chips, popcorn - hot and spicy.

Jack's comments about binge eating being about the fear of being hungry could have been written by me! It took me a long time to figure it out, and I haven't heard of too many people who feel this way, so I felt relieved to hear there's someone else with that fear out there too. It really makes little sense when there's an abundance of food all around me, but getting really hungry generally makes me nauseous and I avoid that at all costs. That's why I know the band will be the perfect tool for me!! I HATE barfing in the worst way, so eating too much or too fast will be something I'll watch like a hawk!

I'm being banded November 29 in Green Bay, WI by Dr. James Kemmerling. I will be going on a liquid diet on Nov. 22nd and for 2 weeks after surgery. I must tell you, I am terrified that I'll feel sick, faint, have terrible headaches from not eating my normal meals! I do NOT look forward to it at all. Does anyone out there have any advice? Will I feel sick or faint or weak? I also am not sure how to do this liquid thing and work too. I could just do Protein drinks at work. I ordered some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury because Slim Fast almost did me in....yuck!! Does Unjury Protein powder and skim milk take the place of Slim Fast?

Sorry for the long post....must be nervous :phanvan

You need to check out Matrix chocolate (Protein powder). You can get it online. Ebay (or a few other web sites) It comes in a purple 5 lb. bag.

It is the best tasting product out there. You just have to be sure to mix it correctly.

(for hot chocolate)

You use one scoop in the bottom of your cup. Add 1/3 cup of COLD Water

Mix until smooth

THEN add the hot Water

That way it comes out perfect everytime (with no lumps).

Another great way to get Protein is ANY whey Protein. You can it get at GNC (or online). It is a tasteless powder that can go in your Soups, coffee, anything semi solid (mashed potatoes) -- depending on what stage of the diet your at. It adds 17 grams of protein with no change in flavor or texture. You can even add it to Matrix for a huge protein boost.

Saw one of your posts asking about slim fast... and that stuff tastes like crap. Thought I would share this since it acutally tastes like something that can be enjoyed, not just tolerated.

Have a good day!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
