Did anyone have a hernia that the doctor saw during surgery? If so do they fix it? Or leave it and tell you about it? Fix it, then charge you for it?

My dr. saw the hiatal hernia during the pre-op EDG. There was no extra cost for the repair.

What is a hiatal hernia ? Sorry if that's a dumb question

There are no dumb questions. I didn't know what it was until I started the process.

A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach bulges through your diaphragm into your chest cavity.http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/medical/IM01191

Hernias in general cause abdominal pain but not always especially depending on how long it is going on. If they find it when doing the surgery and fix it they have saved you from impending pain that would have come eventually plus I believe the only way to fix a hernia is with surgery so they also save you from having to have another surgery down the road.

Turned out I had a hernia. Dr Aceves kept saying a very LARGE hernia. I had no idea. Anyway, he repaired it with no charge.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
