Getting sleeved on Tuesday...scared

Recommended Posts

I fear losing food.

Will I ever be hungry again?

Will eating become like a chore?

Will I ever enjoy food again?

I want to do this for myself & my family...just very scared.

People that have done this? Is this normal?

Congrats on your decision to move towards a healthier you! I had a lot of these same fears and questions when I started my journey. I'm almost a month out now and let me tell you, I have not regretted a thing!

You're hunger will return but it's not a ravenous hunger. You'll just fill up faster and still feel satisfied. I eat whenever I am hungry and although it isn't an entire plate like it used to be, I can eat a little and feel just as full/content.

Eating isn't a chore for me, but I do have to keep track of how much Water and Protein I'm getting in (I use MFP). It's not hard to do - it helps me keep up with my needs - Protein and Water being top priority after surgery! Sometimes I won't be hungry but I'll sip my water or a Protein shake (liquids are less "filling" on the tummy). So there's that, but I don't feel like it's a chore.

Yes! This is one of the wonderful things about the sleeve :) You certainly will enjoy food again. One of my favorite treats before surgery was oreo Cookies....I could eat 6 or 7 after lunch and again after dinner! Now, I eat 1 or 2 at most after dinner some nights and I am full and satisfied. They still taste great, I don't have to make myself stop eating them like before. There are countless other things I love (including chicken wings!!) that I still enjoy but it just doesn't take as much for me to feel full and happy.

I was nervous before my surgery. My husband waited with me until they brought me back for surgery and I cried the whole time! But I KNEW this is what I wanted to do, for him, for me, and my health. I just had a mind set that I had no other choice. The nurse will give you some meds to take the edge off as well once you're prepped. And let me tell you the truth - those first two days after were rough for me. But by day 3, I was up watching movies in bed. And I feel WONDERFUL! It's amazing how in so little time you will really begin to feel better and better. I would do it over again any day. Good luck, you will do great and feel great after! I promise!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
