TES 858 Posted February 23, 2013 Halloumi is good when it's grilled with a little with lemon juice on top (opa!). I didn't think about it in the context of VSG. I'm going to pick some up!
KRB829 47 Posted February 23, 2013 I have never heard of it. TES, when you said grilling it is great, is the texture look Tofu? does it melt? and does it taste rich and creamy? I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I would like to know before I purchase it. Thank you:)
TES 858 Posted February 23, 2013 I haven't had it in a few years, but yes, it totally reminds me of something like a firm tofu.
sk14712012 31 Posted February 23, 2013 Halloumi, doesnt melt easily, best when grilled, however it is a little salty. How do we get rid of the saltiness?
TES 858 Posted February 23, 2013 In looking at this some more--that's a good Protein count, but 100 g is like 3.5 ounces, which is more than I could eat, and it's over 300 calories and 30 g of fat for that serving amount. So if you cut it down to 1 or 2 ounces, the protein amount would change accordingly. Might work for me later on but right now I think I'm better off sticking with lower fat/higher protein options like cottage or ricotta cheese or cheese sticks. I saw there is a such thing as lite halloumi, which might be worth looking into. It would be a nice change of pace.
KRB829 47 Posted February 23, 2013 Thank you TES, I think I will give the lite halloumi a try because I try to stay away from the sodium.
