still vomiting 10 months out

Recommended Posts

Ok haven't been on here in forever; A little about my story. I had lap-band in 2008. In May 2012 I had a lap-band to sleeve revision. I have lost 100 pounds since May. In the beginning I was extremely sick. I ended up in the hospital 3 times in May. Once for 8 days with a pic line to help feed me. It was horrible. I ended up having a 2ed surgery in which they found a small piece of scar tissue and removed it and I did improve. I was actually able to drink Fluid and eat a little. My problem now is I think I should be able to eat most stuff which I still cant. For Breakfast I eat a pack of oatmeal which I am able to hold down. I eat a 1/2 sandwich for lunch usually a couple of pieces of thin sliced turkey lunchmeat on very toasted bread I usually can keep that down. My problem is dinner. OH MY GOSH WHAT A NIGHTMARE.... I just cant seem to figure it out. I have tried weighing my food 2 oz at most. Eating slow....chewing and I always manage to throw up. I can not eat any beef at all. chicken does not work to well either. I can eat some steam shrimp. I am just at a lost. I feel like I have tried everything I know to try. My doctor just did another barium swallow and says all is well and working like it should. If anyone can give me any suggestions I am open to it. Doesn't matter how crazy it may sound i willing to try. Don't drink 30 minutes before or 30 minutes afterwards..just crazy..I have no problems drinking fluids and can hold them down. My problem is regular food at dinner. To be honest I am so tired of eating oatmeal, and my turkey sandwich. I even tried to eat a very juicy egg NOT HAPPENING...it is like my body just does not like the Protein. I do still drink 2 Protein Drinks a day so I do get protein but very rarely from actual food....

I have a couple of thoughts...You say your vomiting at dinner time, have you eaten oatmeal at dinner? Did you vomit then? The question being are you vomiting due to the food choice or the time of day? As far as Protein types- have you tried tofu? I have found that tofu is easily tolerated by my sleeve, while chicken is definately not.

I am 6 months out, and my story isn't that different. What does your doctor say? I have some scar tissue as well, and am now facing a full gastro bypass. It's the only "cure", from my understanding.

Vomitting every day is no fun. I also have 2 small kids and HATE them seeing it and thinking it's normal. Normal mommies do not run to the bathroom after meals, or suddenly pull off the road to throw up out the window. It's awful.

I wish I had words of wisdom. All I can offer is empathy. I would be curious what your doc says, and if it's the same thing I'm being told.

Mary. My dtr said to try mashed potatoes and French fries. A nurse from the Cancer ward told her this is what they feed the kids that can't keep anything down. If you can tolerate cheese or cream cheese to add. Also ask your Doc for a Scopolamine patch. It helps with the nausea. My dtr has been very ill and in and out of the hospital either vomiting or with dehydration 10 times since her VSG in August 2012.

How about trying tuna, canned meats(turkey/chicken/ham), soft fish, cottage cheese, ground meats. Try these with mayo, gravy or sauces. It will make them all easier to go down. eat slow small bites. Good Luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
