If no NAIDS...then what?

Recommended Posts

Hey. Guys. I am still preop and should be sleeved in May. I suffer from terrible joint and muscle pain and have been on anti inflamitory meds for years and there is no way i can live without some kind of pain med. What else as far as prescriptions are an option. I know tylenol otc but that won't do anything for me. Thanks!!

Honestly, nothing other than tylenol. Anti-inflamatories are NSAIDS. I am concerned as well because of my back, hip, and knee pain. I was only told not to take them for 7 days preop.

Talk to your regular doctor about what they would recommend. There are lots of people who can't take NSAIDS for various reasons.

Some people here say you can take NSAIDs. I was told no way by my doc, and I'm going to follow his guidance. I have been lucky to only twing my back once since surgery. Tylenol does nothing for me, so it's a worry for me as well.

My doc allows them for sleeve patients- which is why I had the sleeve. I would be in bad shape if it wasn't for NSAIDs.

My doc allows! Had me on aleve after surgery so i could take fewer and smaller pills. Helped with swelling internally for hernia repair also!

When I need something I take tramadol w/ 2 tylenol. The combination works great for aches and pains. I'm dealthly allegic to NSAID's, almost died Jan.3 2007. Good Luck finding what works for you.

My doctor also allows them. I think that many sleeve rules just came straight from gastric bypass rules. My clinic hands out a binder with post op guidelines and they are the same for the bypass which is ridiculous. Since the surgery is becoming more popular I think that more sleeve particular guidelines will develop.

In in the same boat as you. I read that the problem with NSAIDs in tablet form is that they land in pretty much the same place in your stomach every time since its so small after surgery. I got a script for Vicodin to get me through to surgery time, then I'll transition to liquid Motrin indefinitely.

One of the reasons my surgeon reccomended the sleeve for me was my need for NSAIDS. I could not use them for about a month postop but then was given the go ahead but told to double my PPI and to be alert for any issues with reflux. This has worked out wellfor me. As a previous poster mentioned, many of the "rules" forsleevers are the same as those for bypass patients and this does not always make medical sense. Hopefully in time the rules will start to more accurately reflect the real needs of us sleevers.

That is a good idea to suggest a liquid NSAID. I am going to follow up with my doctor on that because I am taking NSAIDs fairly often now.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
