Any one with United Health Care insurance

Whats the question? No one can tell you if you are covered or not, you have to call YOUR insurance company with YOUR plan number to discuss the benefits about YOUR plan, through YOUR employer.

Hi Lizy, I have United Health Care, Choice Plus PPO. My plan required a BMI over 40 but what they didn't tell me up front was that they required a BMI over 40 for the past 5 years, or a BMI over 35 for the past 5 years with 2 co-morbidities. Since I didn't qualify my doctor fixed my hernia and at the same time did the sleeve and I self paid just for the sleeve.

I have read on here that UHC has another plan that doesn't require 5 years weight history, and instead requires you to go thru 6 months of weigh ins supervised by your doctor...I wish I had that plan, lol. Oh welll the $5,000 out of pocket was soooo worth it!

Good luck with your journey, and I hope you are approved! :-)

Hi Royalsecret, I haven't united health care *** requires six months only. I'm in the last month before I had the lap band for over 8 yes they had to remove it because sledded. I'm worried because my primary doctor wish I have seen for the last past eight months he recommended me the bariatric surgery. Last week I saw him and I told him that I was in my last month of dietitian, he didn't remember anything at all. My concern is if I don't have his approval they will Denied.

I have UHC choice plus. It all depends on your particular plain and what your employer chooses to cover. I have a bmi of 40 no co morbities. They required 2 years if weight history. I did the whole phsyc thing and dietitian as my Dr requested. I was approved in 24 hours for the surgery. Have them email you the exact requirements and deductible amount then you will know what you gotta do.

I have United Healthcare, and I don't have to have had a history of high BMI, nor do I have to follow a 6 month supervised diet -- the only 'catch' is that I have to schedule surgery 6 months out - so as soon as I meet for my first pre-op appointment, I will schedule the surgery then for in 6 months (so probably October/November)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
