Did I do something wrong?

Recommended Posts

Hi vsg friends...

I hope you all can help me with this.

A couple of days ago I lifted some cases of Water. Maybe an hour later I had some slight pain on my left side. I still have the right pain which is getting better. I'm just wondering if I need to be worrying about this. I'm almost a month post op and I was told by my dr. No heavy lifting for two weeks. The cases of Water are only a little heavier than my two year old daughter.

What exactly can happen if you lift something too heavy?

Do you think I should be worried?

It could be any number of things from a pulled muscle, to a cramp, or something more serious. If I were you I would call your surgeon and find out what they want you to do. It's always better to be safe.

well, its hard to say, if it happened right after you lifted something its probably just a muscle issue. At a month post op my abdominal are not totally 100% yet and I think you had surgery about a week after I did. If you are worried about it or its not going away it wont hurt to give your office a call

I was told not to lift anything over 15lbs for 6 weeks. "Sight pain"? Are we talking about incision site? Quite possibly a torn suture. Unfortunately at this stage if it is, it will just be something you'll have to deal with. Because it would be too invasive to reopen an incision to replace 1 internal suture.

It isn't pain at any of my incisions. It feels more like a muscle pain. I had the same pain after surgery and the nurse said it was probably the angle at which the instruments went in etc. And supposedly I have a thick abdominal wall (whatever that means). It is getting better everyday and I barely feel it today.

Thank you everyone. I feel much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
