January Bandsters???

I have always had a thing about scales (not liking them as a measure of health etc).
Do you still attend support groups? Does your insurance cover the fills?

Whitney, the scales don't measure health, that's for sure. I've always resented it (a lot) when someone sees a thin person and assumes they're healthy...and because I'm overweight, assumes that I'm not. Even at 200+, I took karate, aerobics classes, never had any co-morbidities, no meds, etc.

Actually, I've never attended a support group meeting. I'm not much for groups...I find that I get a bit too critical...as in "Quit your bitchin' and do what you need to do!" I do, however, read this board, and participate in the SmartBandsters group. So my support is online. :huggie:

I was self-pay for my surgery, so thought that I'd have to pay for all of my fills, too. Lo and behold, my insurance at least pays for the fluoro part...I pay the doctor. So they cost me $150 each time (instead of $300).

Hi all. I'm so bummed right now -- this is a total shameless plea for sympathy!

Since I'll be in the middle of my pre-op diet for our 1st wedding anniversary, DH and I were going to Celebrate tonight with dinner out and some wedding cake (which my MIL did a fab job wrapping and freezing). Well, last night I woke up at 2:30am ralphing my brains out. food poisoning. Great! I'm trying to think positive, as in #1) my pre-op starts a bit early now, because I can't imagine pigging out on christmas Cookies all weekend with my stomach like this, and #2) a couple months from now when we DO get to do the wedding cake thing, I'll only need a little bite to satisfy and save some calories!

Oh yeah, I forgot #3) I get to stay home on the couch and watch movies instead of going to work! LOL

Hope everyone is hanging in there. I'm insanely jealous of all you that only have to do a week or two of pre-op!

Maria, sorry you got the stomach thing. doesn't sound fun!

Being married for 18 years now, I know how special that 1st anniversary is, so I know you are bummed. Maybe, after surgery and after your post-op, you and DH can go enjoy a lovely evening. I'm sure the cake can survive a few more months.

This year, our anniversary (Dec. 10th) fell on a night that we had to attend a friends going away party. Then we were going to Celebrate it the next weekend (aunt Flo came early). So the whole anniversary just wasn't like it usually is. I told my DH I'm ready to get the 18th & 19th years over, because the 20th we are taking an Alaskian Cruise!! Something to look forward to for me anyhow.

Well, hope everyone is doing okay and have a happy holiday. I have 27 more days until banding and I got my packet in the mail yesterday (kinda freaked me out a bit). Talk to everyone later!

My surgery date is 1/16

I don't have to do liquids before, only after.

Before surgery I just need to go Adkins for 2 weeks. You know the drill, no carbs. So I guess that means I can eat fois gras as I attempt to shrink my liver.

So, until January 2, 2007, I'm on a strict salt, fat, and sugar diet. And I'm really sticking to it. No cheating. (Cheetos, yes, Cheating, no).

My wife is telling me I should start eating less now to get ready for the big change

I'll be eating the "bandland" way soon enough. :puke:

I just needed to check in. I am eating more than I ever have, eating all the things I never allowed myself to since I lived my life from one diet to the next. I am getting really tired of fast food and eating out. I feel like crap. I am actually looking forward to my pre op diet on Jan. 29. I am a type of person that NEEDS structure. If I don't have a strict structure, I go crazy!!!:faint:

I need guidelines. I feel so out of control. I have been eating till I am almost sick. Is this bad? I don't even want to see how much I have gained but I feel it, that I have. I am not even drinking my Water. Why am I doing this to myself? I am trying to figure myself out. A part of my thinks, I will never get to eat this way again, so I am going to go to it!

What is everyone else doing before their pre op? Are you on a feeding frenzy like me?

Merry Christmas (since I doubt I will be on tomorrow).

All I can say is I'm doing the same thing. My pre-op diet starts Jan 2. I'm starting to look forward to it. This pre-band freedom is killing me. Literally. I just took my dogs to the dog park and on the way home I stopped and bought a McDonalds McFlurry. :embarassed: You know, the soft plastic quasi ice-cream-like chemical dessert item. I almost felt compelled to do so by an alien master race. :messenger3: Now I feel like, well, a McFlurry. :sick

I really think I'm going to be able to stick with the plan once installation and setup is complete on the band. I just need to survive that long.

Marjon and Audree (and anyone else), you really *need* to stop this. Here is why...any type of rapid weight gain causes your liver to enlarge. Your surgeon has to *pick up* your liver and move it out of the way in order to reach the stomach to place the band. There HAVE been cases where a surgeon refuses to do surgery because of weight gain and/or during the procedure, decide that the liver is too unhealthy to continue. So in a very real way, you're putting getting banded at risk...and I don't think anyone wants to do that.

I did a very small amount of last supper eating prior to banding. I did not have a pre-op diet at all. Mainly, I ate a few more things here and there that I knew wouldn't work well with a band...such as pizza. But I also knew that getting banded does NOT mean never eating these foods again. I've had pizza since banding...and doughnuts...and cake...and pasta...rice...bread...can you tell I'm not a "perfect" bandster?

But I had those things early in my banding. NOT during the 6 weeks of healing, but at various times before fills or when my band was particularly loose. So if you stop thinking that this is the last time you'll eat "X," then you won't feel so desperate to eat it all now.

You also know that you're not doing yourself any favors by having more weight to lose.

If you need guidelines, then tell yourself that you're going to practice eating like a bandster now. Put small portions of Protein and produce on your plate, take very small bites, and eat very slowly. If you do that and you're still hungry, then get more protein and produce...but better yet, get up from the table and take a walk.

I really DO know how you're feeling. I struggled with the same things this time last year. I remember telling myself that *this* week I'd give up sweet tea...and then it was the next...and the next. I never did make any serious dietary changes pre-banding...but I also didn't go crazy in the other direction either.

Thanks for the advice!!!

I needed to hear that. I just felt so out of control! Today I had eggs, mushrooms stirfry for Breakfast and a small piece of pastry midday. I did so much today I didn't eat lunch or dinner. I asked my hubby if he'd take me out for chinese and split the one entree.

I didn't think about my liver enlarging. I think I have gained maybe about 3 pounds or so.

I really need this board as support. I feel like this is my support group. The only other time I had something like that was on one of my many attempts at Weight Watchers....

But, I love the convenience of the internet. I actually met someone who lives in Rancho Cucamonga online and we are going to meet up and support one another.

Audree: I know how you feel! I have been allowing myself to eat out more than usual the past couple weeks. I think I probably gained 5 or 6 pounds. Not tragic, but still more to lose. Don't beat up on yourself though! We've got to stay positive!

hey i was jan.25 2006 today i reached my goal. 75 lbs. gone .. i cant believe it only took 11 months without hunger or pain. i love lap band.

Thanks! I feels really good not to feel alone. Tonight I went out for Chinese, but my husband and I both split a two item combo. I used to be able to clear one out by myself and they really pack the plate.

I can't wait to be one of those people with experience. I want to document everyday in my journals so I can watch my progress and help people with my journey.

By the way, how do I put the link to my journal on my signiture line?

Thanks, Maria, I'm trying! LOL This is good for me, too. Most of the time, I don't feel like a successful bandster and that's something I need to work on. It's part of making my head *see* the changes and really believe them. I never really knew, until banding, how much of losing weight was a "head game." The band helps immensely with the physical part of it, but I'm the one who has to fix the head stuff. I think it's part of why I could never lose weight before...with both the physical AND mental stuff to fight, it just wasn't possible.

My poor husband...LOL...he's the one that gets to hear me "re-affirming" my weight loss all the time. I still tend to see myself as a fat chick, so I'm sure to many people I'd sound very vain, but he knows better. Just the other day I was getting my hair cut by a gal who is tall, blonde, and very attractive. When she asked me what size I was, I told her a 12....and she said "You're smaller than I am. I wear 16s." I think my jaw dropped to the floor. In my head, I'm thinking "NO way am I smaller than she is!" :present: But the other part of me was doing a "happy, happy, joy, joy" dance because it's TRUE and I'm finally starting to believe it. :present:

Then, I have nights like last night when I dream that I've overeaten and gained 80 lbs back. :girl_hug:

HELLO ..IM ROSE I WILL BE GETTING BANDED ON JAN 11, ....I DON'T FEEL BAD BECAUSE I WAITED FOR THE HOLIDAYS TO BE OVER WITH ......JUST LESS TEMPTATION !!! BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR I WILL HAVE ALREADY LEARNED TO EAT RIGHT AND I WILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE HOLIDAYS WITH NO PROBLEMS....I THINK ITS A GOOD DECISION THAT YOU AND I HAVE MADE !!!!!
