January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Well now that I am home and settled I can say that I AM BANDED!!!!!!!! It was a great trip. Went to Dallas and had the surgery on Friday the 19th. I had a small tickle in my throat and when I woke up from the sx I had a big sore throat. Other than now having a head cold I feel great. No pain meds, very little gas pains and only have sore tummy pains when I cough.

Hope eveyone else goes this smooth.

Rene':clap2: Happy to be banded.

Congrats! You have entered Bandland!!!:clap2:

Hey everyone! I'm back and banded! Whoo-hooo!!!!

Everything went really well, and I'm feeling pretty good. My back is freakin' killing me, but the heating pad seems to be working. No incision pain so far, but it is hard to take a deep breath and stand up straight. I'm in for 2 weeks of full liquids, but man --- it is really hard to get past the mental block of just having few sips at a time!

One funny thing... My surgery went so fast (45 mins) that when the doc came out to talk to DH and my mom, they freaked out thinking something was wrong! Turns out I have "great anatomy" (LOL!), which I guess made it easy to do.

Did anyone else get pictures of their insides? My doc gave me two pics -- one that shows the band in place and another that shows one of the sutures around the band. I'll post them next week if anyone is interested. It's kinda neat.

I'm at my mom's for a few days, so I probably won't be on as much as usual. I'll try to keep up. Can't wait to hear from my date twins!

Maria

Congrats!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: My doc gave me photos after my gallbladder surgery in October. I was surprised to receive such a souvenir!! LOL I met my surgeon today and he was really nice and answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, I have more pre-op tests tomorrow since they didn't schedule them with the others yesterday. I was not happy with the one nurse when she tried to tell me that my heart skipped beats 4 times. My heart was fine yesterday during my tests and my ekg was perfect last week. I have to have one tomorrow for surgery so wish me luck that all turns out well. I really feel I was nervous and anxious so I will close my eyes and picture being thin on the beach in Hawaii!!:huggie:

Congrats on the loss!!!:clap2: :clap2: I also made my 6 week fill appointment. How do they determine if they give you one?

Hi Audree!

My doc said today that he does a fill when you start to feel really hungry and want to eat like you did before the band. Otherwise, he doesn't add restriction to the band.

My doc said he doesn't do a fill until 5 weeks.....I'm going to starve to death by then! I've been really good till today (5 days post-op) and tonight I'm starving! Finally decided I needed something besides soup.....shouldn't have done it but there was some micro-ravioli in the cabinet that the kids wouldn't eat and I did! I only ate about 8 or 10 of them and I mushed them up really good and wow it was fantastic! Didn't think I would ever say that about ravioli!!

Good luck to all of tomorrows bandsters.....thoughts will be with you!

I thought this went well with all of us!!! Let's keep it real!!! We are all in this together!!

You are friendly, kind and caring

Sensitive, loyal and understanding

Humorous, fun, secure and true

Always there... yes that's you.

Special, accepting, exciting and wise

Truthful and helpful, with honest advice

Confiding, forgiving, cheerful and bright

Yes that's you... not one bit of spite.

You're one of a kind, different from others

Generous, charming, but not one that smothers

Optimistic, thoughtful, happy and game

But not just another... in the long chain.

Appreciative, warm and precious like gold

Our friendship won't tarnish or ever grow old

You'll always be there, I know that is true

I'll always be here... always for you.

Smooches....:kiss2:

Congrats! My throat was pretty sore after surgery too. I think it was from the breathing tube though. Glad you are feeling good -- isn't it a relief to have it done? :(

I wouldn't worry too much about the skipped beats. Did she say anything more specific about them? Many people have what are called PVCs, which can sometimes feel like skipped beats. They are usually harmless unless they are very frequent or you have several of them right in a row. If they only showed up on that one EKG, that is probably what they were. I think you'll be fine :D Did you have a stress test at all?

Day 2 post op....

I feel so much better after sleeping last night. Needless to say, I did not sleep very well in the hospital Monday night. My back is still hurting, but the heating pad is doing wonders. My mom spread Bengay all over my upper back before I went to bed last night and that helped a ton too. I woke up once or twice because I realized I rolled over onto my stomach -- oops!

Still no gas or incision pain. I'll count myself lucky there. I have been taking Tylenol with codeine every 6 hours, so I'm sure that's helping.

Yesterday I barely managed to get 42oz of liquids in. And that was with sipping something constantly! I'm getting an earlier start today, so hopefully I'll get to 64oz at least. And to whoever mentioned those Imagine Soups --- they are wonderful!

Ugh... can't wait to take a shower today! LOL!

Maria

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
