Hi, All. Just back from my one week check up. Everything looks good and I have lost 13.6 pounds! I found out that I have a 11cc band. I go back in 6 weeks and might get a fill (depending on how fast I am losing.)

Also, I found out that what I thought was my portal was. So, for some people it is possible to feel it.

One not-so-good thing: when Dr. P went to place the band, he found and removed a cyst from my stomach. The pathologist finally got back to him today and the results are "inconclusive." Dr. P. says we will just watch it for now. ?????? The good way to look at this is they never would have found it if I did not have the lap band surgery.

I have resolved to just be happy where I am.

Love you all!

I am afraid to feel around for mine!

Somewhere I read that they either cut the muscle to put the port in or spread the muscle. Anyone know anything about that?

That is good that they found the cyst. Peacej.

Where is your port? My biggest scar is right next to me belly button.

We were both banded on the 15th right? I also have some pain in my back but it isn't bad. My thighs are sore too, I know it's strange. It started all at once yesterday afternoon, if it had been from riding my bike I think it would have started sooner. So far I haven't had any of the shoulder pain that other people talk about, thank God! All and all I think I'm doing pretty good as far as pain goes. Not able to take in much in my little pouch tho. It really is a learning experience. As far the pain in the back did you get an insentive spirometor from the hospital? Use it, you need to expand your lungs and it really will help with getting the pain to go away. If you didn't just take some REALLY deep slow breaths, about 10 of them and see if it helps.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I'm not getting back to you until now. I did get a spirometor and after about 4 days the pain started getting better. I also used a heating pad all night for three nights and that made a big difference. In addition, starting on Weds, I was out and about all day long doing errands with my sister and walking.

How is your food going? I'm on creamy Soups and Protein Shakes and I'm feeling very hungry. The first week, I couldn't even get a full Protein Shake down until the third day and I wasn't hungry at all.

Renee,

The port is just under my largest scar, which is about 6" below my left breast. My scars may be in a different places than others because I have a large scar on my right side. All my scars are on my left side.

Well Iam back from being bandded. I have bad shoulder pains from the gas. I have been walking but nothing has happen. Does anyone have a suggestion? As for as my cuts the only one that I really feel is where my ports at. My mother was bannded today also and she has no gas pains, Lucky for her. She is just a little sore. I guess the pain will be worst tomorrow, after sleeping. I will try to wake my self up to walk. I wish this shoulder pain would go away.

I don't get banded until next week but have had several laproscopies for endometriosis. Anyhow, I reccomend sitting up as much as you can. The walking helps but I felt the shoulder pain more when I was laying down. Not sure if it will help, but it helped me.

Well now that I am home and settled I can say that I AM BANDED!!!!!!!! It was a great trip. Went to Dallas and had the surgery on Friday the 19th. I had a small tickle in my throat and when I woke up from the sx I had a big sore throat. Other than now having a head cold I feel great. No pain meds, very little gas pains and only have sore tummy pains when I cough.

Hope eveyone else goes this smooth.

Rene':clap2: Happy to be banded.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
