January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

6 days past banding, I ate 1 soft scrambled egg. It feels like a hard little lump at the end of my esophogus. How long does it take to move? It will move won't it? I don't feel sick, I'm just a little scared. I go for my fill on Friday, do you think it will be gone by then?

Wow, your doctor let you eat an egg already??? Lucky!!! I am on liquids for 3 weeks!!!!:faint:

Hi all,

Just back from the hospital. My surgery was at 8:30 and all went well. I didn't tolerate the anesthesia well, but I guess that is to be expected. I'm feeling a little sore in my upper abdomen where they did there laroscopy and a raspy throat but is understandable. I've been give some prescription meds and am going to nap for a while if I can..then go walking.

Shawn

Great!!! I had a reaction to the anesthesia too, but I vomitted 2 times. I also expelled a lot of gas by mouth at the same time. It was very strange to vomit banded.

Walking is good!

Hi! Right now, I'm scheduled to be banded on January 23rd..if only I can get rid of my head cold. I'm so excited and yet so bummed that I got this stupid cold. I've been placed on antibiotics and prednisone. Even if I do somewhat clear it up, it's up to the anethesiologist if he'll do it. Guess they aren't thrilled with the prednisone. So, please wish me luck. I so want to get rid of the cold.

I got what I thought was strep before surgery and started popping Airbornne. IT worked!!!

Hi everyone, I am considering the lap band. Your posts are a great encouragement to me. I haven't actually made the call yet :phanvan but I did see some posts from someone in Pueblo, CO. I am in Colorado Springs and would like someone to hold my hand and let me know everything that I need to do. I know, what a baby :think ! I have been researching -- I am also not sure that my insurance will cover it, I have Kaiser does anyone else have Kaiser and have they covered it? If so, what were the conditions? What are the conditions if you pay out of pocket? Any help would be great, I have a million questions as I am sure you all did! Thanks for any help you can give me!

I am a self pay. You need to have a history of yo you dieting and have a bmi of 30. I did mine with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. He has done over 4000 and is world renowned.

Thanks for the prayers. I am not sore but I do have a lot of pain in both sides of my back when I take a big breath in. Has anyone else had that?

We were both banded on the 15th right? I also have some pain in my back but it isn't bad. My thighs are sore too, I know it's strange. It started all at once yesterday afternoon, if it had been from riding my bike I think it would have started sooner. So far I haven't had any of the shoulder pain that other people talk about, thank God! All and all I think I'm doing pretty good as far as pain goes. Not able to take in much in my little pouch tho. It really is a learning experience. As far the pain in the back did you get an insentive spirometor from the hospital? Use it, you need to expand your lungs and it really will help with getting the pain to go away. If you didn't just take some REALLY deep slow breaths, about 10 of them and see if it helps.

I got this from my bandsters email.

"question:

Has anyone been told by their Doctor or nutritionist to stop eating

after a half an hour- I just saw a post that someone was

told to stop eating after a half an hour - Has anyone else heard this?

- I thought the 20 minute rule was a minimum so that your head(NOW HANDS) and stomach get signals and hormones are cued? _I'm really trying to dine instead of just eating

and that takes a lot longer"

answer:"After 20-30 minutes, your food will be dropping out of the pouch into the larger stomach. If you continue eating past 30 minutes, you are

just replacing what's already passed through, defeating your purpose. "

"I've been told to stop eating after 20 minutes. I have gotten into

the habit that when I sit down with my meal, as I chew the first bite

or 2 I continue cutting up my 'protein' so that I save a little time

during eating.

Jessie told me that if we take longer than about 20 mins the food

starts to move down the band and the pouch isnt staying full. I told

her that it was taking me longer to 'eat my whole meal' and she

suggested that in the 20 mins I was getting 'enough'. So now I stop

eating at 20 mins no matter how much I've eaten. If I get hungry a

little later I have a bit more :)"

"The logic is sound. When you eat, the food is constantly going through

the stoma to the lower stomach. If you continue to eat for unlimited

amounts of time you will be eating and emptying the pouch and therefore

will be eating more than your pouch was designed to hold. If I feel

full, and wait a few minutes I could continue to eat. Kind of like

shampooing your hair, shampoor, rinse, repeat. I eat,get full, wait,

and repeat. Using this method you could eat much more than bandster

portions. Take it from me, I do it often."

Have any of you heard this?

Hi, Audree...I'm looking through my nutrition booklet and all it says is: allow 30 minutes minimum for mealtimes. Right after surgery you may need up to 60 minutes...nothing about the "after 2-30 minutes"...That is a good question..I must call my nutritionist tomorrow and see what she thinks...If you hear different let me know...

Well tomorrow is my big band day as well. I had a cold at the beginning of January. They did a chest xray last week, everything was okay. However, I do still have a slight cough. I called today they said I'll be evaluated tomorrow by the anestesiologist. Say prayers everone that the surgery will be performed. I will be so bummed if they reschedule...

Thanks for the prayers and your support!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
