Hi everybody! I'm having my operation on Friday and can't wait. I did just have a bit of a downer conversation with my bff who told me that somebody she knows got banded in either August or october and hasn't lost a single pound. Up until now it hasn't occurred to me that this could actually fail. I'm going to chock it up to one of those stupid things people say when they don't know better.

Glad to join the jan bandwagon!

Carole

If you listen to your doctors guidelines, there is no way you can't lose!!! My doctor told me I can lose 28-58 pounds in six months just depending on if I listen to the guidelines and eat good quality foods. He has banded over 4,000 patients. There is a way to eat "around" the band. High calorie liquids, Soups, shakes, Cookies, chocolates, chips. These things go easily through the band.

I am going to definitely stay away from those things and find healthy substitutes.

Just follow banster rules and you will do great!Audree

I can tell that we are quite similar. We both have done plenty of research on here and could not wait to get banded. I will know when this Friday. From what I have been reading, you were banded just recently?? How do you feel? :(

Hi,

Well, my surgery was this last tuesday. I have been doing fine. I am bruised and sore today from one of the sites more than the others. I did experience port pain. It was a sheering, hot pain that lasted about 15 seconds until I could relax my abdominal muscles. This has happened everyday and it took awhile to figure out where the pain was coming from. I talked with my MD today and he is the one that told me it was port pain. I am being very strict with the menu the nutritionist developed for me and it is working fine. As far as anything I have experience in the past I would do it again.

My doctor didn't say anything about driving, and I forgot to ask, but I was okay to drive a pretty significant distance yesterday on day 3 post op. Did you doctor restrict you because of meds or because of possible physical limitations due to the incisions? Had it not been for the tenderness I would have driven home from the hospital lol

They said it at the class I had to attend prior to surgery. It was a blanket statement for everyone.

I guess I'll just see how it goes. I live alone and it would be a hassle not to be able to drive for 5 days.:rolleyes

Thanks for the info!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Is it bad I wont even look at my stomach or incisions? I am so girly about those things. I am going to see my surgeon today so he can check things out. The last time I looked though, I really couldn't tell which was my port. lol weird

I'd like to know my legal rights when the time comes to eat out. Does anyone know a lawyer they can ask. I have pre paid legal and will ask also. I did get a card from my doctor

I feel even better today than I did yesterday, must be all that cheese lol. I am still having a problem getting all my Water and milk (ick) in. I substitute my milk with Carnation instant Breakfast but can see myself getting sick of that soon. I got on the scale today and have now lost 9.5 lbs. Unreal. I know some of it is water weight but almost 10 lbs??? I have been growing my hair out to donate for a while, it is very long. I finally set a cut date...when I get down to 200 lbs. I was aiming for 40 lbs by the end of April, but at this rate...hmmm. I am meeting with my surgeon and dietician today so I have a bunch of questions. I am also going to ask about that card, Audree, and see what they say. I'll let you know.

Hi everybody,

Glad all of us with early January surgeries are doing well. I hope things go just as good for the rest of the January bandsters. Angyl have you tried flavored soymilk. I can’t drink milk so I have been using soymilk to mix with my Protein Powder. I have the vanilla flavored from costco and it tastes pretty good. 100 cals and 8 grams of Protein in 8 oz. So far the liquid diet has not been bad at all, but my surgeon did not require any pre-op diet just no food or anything to drink after midnight before surgery so liquids only for 2 weeks now is all good with me. Take care everybody.

Susan

Thanks Susan, I will try that. My friend also told me about Rice milk. I am going to speak to my nutritionist about it. She says the vanilla is really good.

I was just banded on Friday, Jan. 5. I feel really good. I am feeling swollen and have gas pains, but that is very minor for having someone all up in my guts!:faint:

I am tired too. Probably due to the low calories. I am really excited to be beginning my journey!!!

Audree:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
