January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Isn't it so wierd how our brain sees the food and wants it soooo bad that we get ourselves in trouble? It is such a hard thing to overcome.

After all I have been through this past week I have decided that when I can start eating again (not for another two weeks) I am literally going to take a 1/2 C. measuring cup with me everywhere. I don't care if I have to put it on my key chain. I am going to measure out 1/2 C. of whatever I eat and set it aside. My brain just isn't getting it and although sometimes I time it just right to stop when I feel full, it is those times that I take just one or two extra bites because I'm not paying attention, that are setting me back.

I can always eat another 1/2 C. after a couple of hours - that is what I have to remember when I feel like I am being deprived.

This is hard - and they say it is the easy way.....ha, just try to go through our year in our footsteps!!! Yay, us!

Hi all,

We've dropped to the third page...we better get talking and support each other.

So, how are all of you doing? Successes? Disappointments?

I had a two pound gain over the weekend, which is odd since I didn't eat anything on Friday but a bowl of Soup. But I'm just sticking with eating properly and hoping it will all balance out. I know I'm behind on my Water consumption.

What do you guys eat for Breakfast? I'm in search of some new ideas.

Sula, thanks for moving us back to the first page. I don't understand why some weeks I gain a pound after practically eating nothing, then lose after I expected a gain.

My band is fickle, and sometime it seems too tight, then other times I feel like I must have lost all restriction.

Breakfast - I usually just have a Protein Drink, or nothing. I don't begin to feel hungry until about 2-3 in the afternoon. I know that is bad, and that I shouldn't skip breakfast, but sometimes I do.

Enterprise, I am an animal lover and feel your pain. I am close to the same stage with my dog, and my cat is 15 years old. I hope you are able to accept the situation that is best for your cat and yourself. I'll be thinking of you.

I'd like to hear from the rest of you, help to keep this thread up on top.

Remember everyone, if you don't eat enough, you will not lose weight. Our bodies are just like a wood burning stove. If you don't put wood in, it won't get hot and heat anything. If you put wood in several times over the course of the day, it stays hot and consistent. If you put a ton of wood in all at once it burns really hot and then dies out.

Try to eat 5-7 small meals all day and always have something at breakfast to start your metabolism. You haven't eaten all night because you were sleeping and you have to "get things burning!" It isn't about being hungry, it is about metabolism. For us, just 1/2 C. every few hours or a Protein drink that is low is fat and sugars will do the trick.

Hugs to all,

Jennifer

I agree with you Jen and do try to eat breakfast every day. I generally have a Protein drink, but occasionally will do some scrambled eggs. Usually once a week, on the weekend, it is a spectacular breakfast..omlette with the works. Still don't eat bread as a general rule, but do like hashbrowns. I try to eat in moderation. I have PB's on mushrooms so I am very careful about adding those to my omlettes. I did have some on a bbq'd steak the other night and just chewed them to mush.

I love my band, because moderation is easier. I read a threat on here that someone "gorged" on mexican food..she had one and a half tacos!!

Has anyone here had pizza since banding? I have not, actually since the first of the year. I do like it but I'm afraid. And it is one food that I would truly gorge on in the days of old. I worry that the dough will be too doughy. Any thoughts here?

Ahh, Sula, leave the pizza for me! I did have pizza, but only ate the topping and left the crust behind. I felt like I was sipping on a pizza, and just enjoying the flavors.

Mushrooms do cause me problems. The things that I absolutely must avoid are tamales and scrambled eggs. I just can't do those at all without suffering.

So I guess the band does work. Let's keep this thread on the top.

Me eating pizza is NOT a pretty sight. The dough can be tough to get down (a good thing, gone are the days of 3 slices!). But I have a tendancy to eat the tip. Then the rest I seem to chew, then spit onto a place. I get the flavors, but not the food.

Demented; I Know. :help:

I can eat pizza with no problem...I can eat anything and I've never PB'D. I just make sure I chew very well.

Be blessed

Thanks, Tulip. I had to put my cat to sleep yesterday. It was really hard on my boyfriend, too. This was his favorite cat. Of course, I resorted to my old standby (chocolate) to make me feel better. I ate about 12 truffles. It's a shame chocolate goes down so easily.

I skip breakfast, too. I actually don't get up until around 10 a.m. and then I'm always running late, so I don't have time to eat until later in the afternoon. I've also discovered that the band is just too tight earlier in the day. If I do eat before 2:00 or 3:00, it always comes back up. And I'll never do the Protein Drinks. Just the smell of them makes me gag. I go to bed around 2:00 a.m., so from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., I probably eat about 6 times. I snack on the South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bars, string cheese, and beef Jerky. I've found that I can't keep cereal in the house or I'll lose control with that. Cereal (especially granola cereal which is as fattening as butter) goes down easily, and all those carbs are addictive. For awhile, I was eating 3 or 4 bowls of cereal at night, so I just can't buy that stuff anymore. And I love jerky, which is low fat, high protein, but it's so salty that waiting 30 minutes to drink afterward is torture.

Anyone have some good suggestions for high protein Snacks that I can keep at the office?

Enterprise, so sorry about your cat. I do know how that loss feels. And truffles probably are not the worst if you don't make a habit of it.

I keep yogert in my office, but not sure what the Protein levels are...I can't remember, I'm sure I looked at one time. I also keep the small cans of Water packed tuna..albacore in my office, string cheese, I take Protein Powder and have soy milk in the fridge. Just a variety, but I don't usually do the in-between meal snack unless I'm having a long time between meals. What I need to do is quit eating dinner so late at night and then going to bed.

Hi Everyone! So sorry about your cat Enterprise. I have 2 cats and I can't imagine losing them.

I keep light string cheese at work and some of the laughing cow lite cheese. I don't eat them much but they are there.

I am struggling to get the scale moving and I am thinking about getting an unfill. I am having a hard time with heartburn and burning in my esophagus. I put myself on liquids for a few days to see if I can get it under control but I think I am too tight. Is anyone seeing good movement on the scale? It seems like we have all slowed down. I guess its normal but I would sure like to get to goal and buy some clothes that I dont have to worry about shrinking out of them and wasting money. I am finally out of clothes. Everything I own is too big. 75lbs. How is everyones wardrobe doing?

Any word from Sunshine???

Enterprise, I am sorry that you are feeling the pain of losing your cat. I am worried about losing my own and keep trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. Right now he doesn't appear to be in pain, but I'm not sure about quality of life issues. You shouldn't fret over truffles, allow yourself to grieve your loss at this time. You can get back on track later.

RMS I was so surprised to find my clothes getting too loose when I thought I was on a plateau. Now that I have pulled out some clothes for cooler weather, I realize that I don't have anything to wear when the first cold front comes through. I started out at size 20, and when I went to buy a pair of jeans this past weekend, I purchased a size 12! I don't feel that thin, and wonder if the new "stretch" jeans are responsible for this size. I haven't worn a 12 in so long I don't remember when it was!

Sherilynn, your pizza eating sounds so similar to what I do. Not pretty for those around me.

I had a strange day for my eating habits. I woke up hungry! I am not used to that because I usually am so tight in the mornings and don't usually get hungry until late afternoon.

Because I was hungry I had a string cheese - no problem. At lunch I ate a small portion of salad with 2 meatballs. All that went down just fine. Around 3:30 I was hungry again! I am definitely not used to that at all. I made a really bad decision to get 2 chicken nuggets and tried to chew them to mush. Then I started to slime and PB and was miserable.

I don't understand why I felt hungry so soon after lunch. For dinner I had Soup and stopped to be safe. But I am hungry again now. What is going on?

Enterprise, as far as Protein Snacks, today was not a good description of my usual routine. Most of the time, I sometimes eat one piece of thinly sliced turkey lunch meat, or a Profect bullet. Profect is a low calorie Protein Drink that is like 3 oz and it comes in several flavors. It is available on the internet at protica.com. It is kinda pricey, but usually when I need a snack it will take care of the munches.

What do you think made me so hungry today and then to get so tight I PB'd? I was afraid I had lost all restriction, and now I am not sure.

I guess my band is just finicky.

Where are the rest of our January bandsters? I wish all of you would drop in and give an update.

My scale is not moving at all, but I'm not exercising at all either and probably not eating the best.

Tulip, are you eating enough Protein? I wonder if that is why you're feeling hungry. I had a time this past week where I actually felt hungry..isn't that strange when it comes and we actually marvel over the feeling.

I'll be off the compter till sunday as we are headed to southern Idaho for a bird dog championship. My pup is running tomorrow and the on Sat or Sun, my DH has a dog running. We do this from horseback...lots of fun.

Keep up the motivation for all of us and I'll enjoy catching up on the posts when I get back

Shawn

Hi everyone! I think we are on page 3 now!

The scale finally got moving! I have no clue how or why but it did. Maybe I was on a plateau. My eating is ok. I really really really need to slow down. My biggest problem comes when I try to eat too quickly.

I am 8lbs from Onederland and I can't believe it. I haven't been below 200 in years. Since shortly after I had my 20 year old son.

I can't wait to get there!

How is everyone else doing!?

That's good, I know how it feels to be stuck at a plateau! Congrats!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
