January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

HELL YES, I'm terrified of solids foods at this point. Can't even have mushies until 2/15...but even they scare me. My thing is that I'm so afraid of PBing. I know it's bound to happen; I just don't want it to!

I suppose I better stop drinking with my Soups at this point; again to break the habit!

morning ladies..

I cant believe how the weight is dropping off..ok so I shouldnt step on the scale everytime I go in the bathroom, but wow....I am sure it is because I cut my caloric intake to about 1/8 of what it used to be, and I have been drinking Water and being a good girl...this band is such a mental thing, ya know? I mean, you spend that kind of money and go through the discomfort,so you dont want to screw it up by not following the rules..so todays creation? I am going to boil some cauliflower in chick broth and add some creme of chedder Soup, just a tad, and some milk and blend it all up...I have invested in a bunch of those ziplock bowls and whatever I dont eat I freeze, then I can take a diffrent soup to work each day next week...woohoo this is fun!:hungry: No PB's so far, but I think my cream of wheat was too thick because my tummy feels "tight"...oh well trial and error, right? Im off to see my horsey, and to walk, and hopefully will be able to ride by next week (yeah, I dont have a bf, so I dont need to worry about the next time I "do it",,IM sure I will be quite healed by then(like the year 2009 or something))!

Welcome home! :P

I was sore for a good week after surgery. It got a little bit better everyday, so hang in there. I did take my tylenol with codeine for the first 3 days, but after that the regular tylenol served me fine. I stopped taking that 5 days out.

Yes, and it wasn't painful, just not all that comfortable (wasn't bad either!!!!!) and I was about 10 days post op. If it was me, and the first time with someone, I'd wait until I was 100%. There is enough pressure on a new intimate relationship without putting pain in the equation! Of course this is just my opinion.....husband would say where there's a will, there's a way!!!!

I meant we haven't had actual intercourse since the surgery. My BF and I have been together for over 11 years, and he's very concerned about the pain that the orgasms are triggering. And so am I. We've fooled around 3 times since surgery and the pain is not diminishing any. I would have thought that as the healing process progresses, the pain would get better, but I'm not seeing any improvement at all.

I slept from the time I got home hospital to the next morning. Other than a headache, I've been fine. I've been walking about as much as possible and so far, no gas either... BONUS! This has really been a walk in the park for me.

I was released to "anything I want" yesterday and I'm afraid to eat. The entire family seems to be watching every bite I take to see how I'm doing and I'm scared to death to PB or worse!

Anyone else scared to eat solid foods?

Also has anyone tried something and it wasn't a good idea?

I am able to eat soft solid foods, including cooked fish, well cooked vegetables, etc. I had some leftover fish the next day for lunch and that did not agree with me, but the night before I was fine. I think the second time the fish was too dry. I didn't PB, but could feel the bite sitting at the top of my chest for about 5 minutes. That did NOT feel good at all. I now make sure that I dribble Water, lemon juice or something on my fish to moisten it. When I get to regular foods, I'll probably keep doing this for a while.

The veterans say that eating with the band is trial and error. I think they are right. We are going to have to figure out what agrees with us. What works for someone else might not work for me.

Let us know what you eat and how you are doing. I'll be interested in the real food tests.

Terry

I agree that eating with the band is trial and error. My experience so far has been a little heavy on the "error." I've been a bad bandster. It's not that I've eaten bad things, but I have not really followed directions as well as I should have. I moved past liquids a little too soon, thinking I was ready. I was not. I PB'd several times over that and then went back to liquids for a few days. I've also had some trouble with eating bites that were too big, eating them too fast, and not chewing enough. Bad bandster!! :P

So anyway, today I approached the matter with a new resolve. I made myself a one-egg omelet with cheese. I sat down at the table and ate it in tiny bites, chewing each one for a long time. I waited a while between each bite to see if I would have that "golf ball" feeling. Well, everything went well. I had no problems at all. I feel fine.

So, the moral of the story is, there are no shortcuts with the band. When you are full, or eat a bite that is too big, it is like driving a car into a brick wall. You are simply not going to get past that wall, period. So, you have to be careful. But if you follow the rules, you can find things to eat. I imagine once you get your sea legs the whole thing gets a lot easier.

I also want to say that from my point of view PBing is really not that big a deal. The only reason I am concerned about it is because people say it is bad for the band. PBing in itself is not that bad. When you "vomit," this comes from the stomach where all the digestive acid is and all that, and the material that comes out is forced out through strong convulsions of the stomach muscles, it tastes terrible, and you feel like crap afterwards.

PBing is different. It is more like when you shake up a bottle of coke and then take of the cap, the coke comes bubbling up to the top by itself. You don't have to squeeze the bottle to force it out. And the material that comes out when you PB is not foul in particular. It's really just the stuff you ate without much change, before the food has come in contact with any digestive juices or other strange substances. I just didn't find it to be much of a big deal, except that people say it is bad for the band. So, since it's bad for the band you probably don't want to get into an recreational PBing, or anything like that, but I would not "dread" or "fear" the experience. It's not that bad. Think of it as a sort of christening of your bandster ship as you begin your maiden voyage. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hey Marjon,

Again - thank you for the great post! I am one of the newly banded folks that is terrified of a PB! I cry when I vomit preband. I dread the thought of it - its just something that I have to deal with.

I bought baby forks and spoons to help me out with Portion Control for when I go to mushies and then solids. If I didn't do that, I'd be PBing immediately for sure. :hungry:

Take care of that band, kiddo! You went through a lot to get that bad boy. That, and I wouldn't want the wrath of Dr. K upon me... tee hee

Glad to hear you turned over a new leaf! Keep up the great work!

Yeah, I called him and confessed. He sentenced me to several days of broth and popsicles. I wasn't really trying to be bad. I thought that what I was doing was within the guidlines, if just barely. But, I pushed it a little too far. That golf ball feeling in the chest can really get your attention. I don't want to have that experience any more often than I have to.

I think that is the main thing I learned about the band over the last week. That is, if you have restriction the band is totally unforgiving. If you cross the line of your limit, you are not going to get away with it, there will be a price to pay.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
