Checking in for the day...

I've been settling into the mushies pretty good. I can definitely eat more than the 1/2 cup I'm supposed to, but I'm doing my best to restrain myself. I AM definitely satisfied with just the 1/2 cup, so there's no reason for me to eat more. It's one of those old habits I gotta break!

I found a really neat little food/exercise journal. It's called DietMinder. I have looked at a ton of these, and this is the only one that I really felt fit what I was looking for. Check it out. :P I decided to pick this up because I am required to keep journals of food and exercise for my fill appointments. I figured it would be easier to have it all in one little portable place.

Everybody keep up the good work!

Maria

Hi,

I have a question for Dr. Spivak's patients- I called today to make an appointment for my first fill. I was banded on the 19th of Jan- and will have my first fill on the 16th of Feb. Now, the question. Did Dr. Spivak's office have any of you get your fill at the surgical center on South Main in Houston?

I said Oh we don't see Dr. Spivak on your 1st appt.- and the lady on the phone said only if you request to see him. Is that the way your fills were handeled?

Please advise.

Thxs,

Deb-Texas

I am so worried about getting dehydrated that I'm really doing a good job at forcing liquids down. First 48 was clear liquids and today I was allowed to add Protein shake; so I did whey into my chicken broth. Had an ice pop, some apple juice, Jello. Can go to full liquids on Saturday...I'll try every Soup out there.

Trying not to let it get monotonous. Gas pains are rough; I too had an 'accident' today - thank the lord I wore a Poise pad just incase.

My bandages came off as well, just left with steri strips. TINY little incisions; but the port looks larger than I thought it would be. But I'm not getting up close and personal with it either.

Going to try to sleep in the bed tonight; the recliner is NOT good for sleeping.< /p>

That is so awesome that you are learning about yourself and changing habits!! You will be successful! So, many of us don't learn, myself included. But, I have caught myself and reigned in!

Good Job!!!!

You are doing a great job with the Water. It is such an easy thing to overlook! I never knew since I have gone through times of not drinking much liquid but I guess being banded changes things.

The port incision looks big at first then shrinks. After they were totally healed I started massaging ScarGuard into them!!

Deb, they told me the same thing. But they also said that if I had any questions or concerns that I wanted him to address, I should make my first fill appointment on a Thursday. Thursday is the one day he is at the Surgery Center. The rest of the days he is at his office. I made my appointment for exactly 5 weeks, which falls on a Monday (February 12) and I didn't want to postpone any later than that. I'm beginning to feel like I could eat more, and get hungry again a couple hours after eating.

Then again, maybe I will call to move ahead to the earlier Thursday.

Hi TracyV- I am so glad that you are doing well. I have to do clear liquids for 1-2 weeks with the addition of Protein of some sort. I am burping alot though. I hope that doesn't hurt the band. Take care-Gigi:)

it is funny how all doctors are different...I only had 24 hours of clears, and had some very thin cream of wheat for breakfast..it was the best thing I have ever tasted! I am going to see my horsey for the first time since and take a nice walk...my doctor is so cool, he emailed me last night and told me to WALK WALK WALK...I am going to buy a yam today, bake it, mash it, then thin it with chicken broth and have it for lunch...I have always been a creative cook, now it is just going to be smooshie fare....

I did 1 hour on my elyptical machine!!!

That makes 2 times this week!!!

One day at a time.

I am also going to give myself a choice of what activity I am going to do everyday:

1. walk around the block

2. Elyptical at home

3. Gym

4. Dance video workout

I tell myself I am just getting on for 15 minutes, but end up staying on!

I can't imagine doing an hour on elyptical - whew! Congratulations.

I like your list of choices for exercise, I'll think up a list for me too. Great idea!

Terry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
