January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Sending prayers and best wishes to those joining the land of bandsters: PruposeDriven4, Juno610 and RSBell. Please come back and let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it.

Audree, Oooh, I love to hear those NSVs. :clap2: Congrats! The only thing that I have noticed is my bra is getting a little loose. My hubby notices that my tummy is not as swollen.

How many calories are in the Kellogg’s Protein Water? How many grams of Protein? What is your favorite flavor?

<O:p</O:p

I took up your advice and named my band too. Bandele – which means “given life”. That seems so appropriate for me, since my Bandele is going to restore my health, reduce my dependence on medications and will liberate me!

<O:p</O:p

Shesha – Will be sending positive thoughts your take to care of that cold. Call the doctor to check before you go. I was told that as long as I was not running fever, and there was no congestion in my chest I would be okay to go.

<O:p</O:p

PurposeDriven4 – I was told I could drive as soon as I quit taking the prescription pain medicine.

<O:p</O:p

Sunshine2 – I hope you call your doctor if your blurry vision isn’t totally resolved by Monday. It might just be the meds, but better to be safe. Thanks for your work on the master list.

<O:p</O:p

Lap – welcome to the losers side. I had all those same thoughts before surgery just like you. You have given good advice to those waiting and scared – do it anyway!

<O:p</O:p

NickNack – That light- headed feeling is probably from not getting enough liquids. Try to take just a small sip every 15 minutes if you can. Hope you feel better real soon, if not call your doctor on Monday and let us know how you are doing.

MySpace – I am very new to my space, but have started a profile. I have tried to add friends from this thread at lapbandtalk. I have Audree and Olga’s page link but am still trying to find out how to get them added to my friends. Is there anyone else out there with a my space page? My page is http://www.myspace.com/joytowin

This has been so nice to catch up and read how everyone is doing. I’m improving each day.

<O:p</O:p

Is anyone else on “soft foods” yet. What is your daily menu look like? For me I had oatmeal at Breakfast, Split pea Soup at lunch, and some Tomato Soup with a scrambled egg for dinner. Around 3 in the afternoon I had snack of lite yogurt with unflavored unjury mixed in. I definitely got my 64 oz of fluids in today (but didn’t do as well yesterday). Took a 20 minute walk.

<O:p</O:p

Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Kelloggs Water had 5 grams of protein and 50 calories. I have tried the lemon and strawberry ones and they are both good.

Sounds like you are doing really good!!!:clap2:

I love the K20 water!! My favorite is the lemon but the strawberry kiwi and tropical punch are good too.

Still looking for ideas on getting the gas out of my chest/rib cage area. I hope that's what it is......usually doesn't happen unless I'm walking or standing. Then there is a sharp pain, sometimes I burp and the pain goes away, other times the pain goes away a little bit later. Other than the gas pains and being a little weak I feel great. Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Congratulations to everyone just banded, good luck to all being banded in the next day or two!!!

Also congrats to the nsv's I've heard....can't wait to have one of my own!

My heating pad helped and the walking helped. Also, the gas x.

I would also bend over my pillow with the heating pad on it, kinda face in the bed, butt in the air position and the air seemed to find its way up somehow!!

Hello everyone!

I had my pre-op testing today and meet with the surgeon tomorrow. It's hard to believe that surgery is next Tuesday! Did anyone have to do a blood gas test? I definately did not enjoy a needle being jammed into my artery on the inside of my wrist! :) I asked the nurse if this is the artery people cut themselves on? She said it is. I told her that you definately have to be mentally ill to inflict that kind of pain! We had a good laugh. I am wondering if my surgeon is going to put me on a pre-op diet tomorrow so I had the "last supper" tonight.

I need a name for MY band!??? Being that for all my life I've been called everything from 'Shirly, Sharon, Shelia, Shelly,...' I thought I'd go with something like that. But I want it to be clever, like when us girls say "Ruby" is in town.

:)

I have to smile because my hubby has started something here! I love reading that everyone is naming their band. Thumbs up to the "belly band"! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

WOW! I didn't have to do a blood gas test. Sounds very painful!

I was told that my surgeon likes to know how much oxygen is in your blood before surgery so he knows if the level is normal after surgery. I am happy to know he is thorough but I definately did not like it!!:faint:

Here's another question that just "popped" in my head.....

In that position to release the gasses......exactly which end does it come out of??!?!?!?!?

:)

The air rises!!!! When I did it, I was hoping no one would walk in on me!!!:faint: But, it worked for me! Let me know if it worked for you so it can be official! It is also an old wives tale for the gas pains that my grandmother has always told me about. She called it "petho position". Petho meaning fart position! So, I grew up on it! I never thought I'd be doing it now and telling others about granny's cures for gas!

Maybe the laughing while doing it too helped! LOL:clap2:

Audree,

How funny. I'll have to tell my husband that one. He is Mexican, I wonder if he already knows it but never shared! Well, only two more days until Band Day. I've gotten over my nervousness. I'm actually getting excited. I got all of the last minute tests done and faxed to my doctor in San Francisco. I am staying at my daughter's overnight after the surgery. I better remember to lock the bedroom door if I need to get in the "Petho Position". I would hate to have my son-in-law walk in on me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
