January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

BabyGotBack,

The Doctor told me that I could use Muscle Milk By Cytosport as a Protein Shake. It comes in 20 or so different flavors but my preverence is lemon. Well, they don't have that flavor, so I wanted to find out if there is anything that you could add to vanilla to flavor Protein Drinks for you. The doctor, in my pre-op support class told us to add a little bit (Teaspoon) of lemon extract to my shake and it would give it a close enough flavor to what I am looking for. I have also tried almond and black walnut. All are very good and there are websites that you can get the supplements for cheaper as well.

That's a good idea. I never thought of that. I'm going to go add some Lemon extract to one of my vanilla Protein Shakes (that I truly do not like the flavor) right now. Heck, I may add some vanilla extract...it needs something!

Congratulations to all the new Bandsters!!! Get some rest, and your Water and Protein in to the best of your ability.

We'll be looking forward to hearing how you are progressing over the course of the next couple of days!

Congratulations to those who are seeing the scale move down, too! I know you are happy about that.

Okay, I'm done tying up the thread. :) Going to go walk these mashed potatoes down so I can breath again. :)

The way I have been getting most of my Protein is by creamy split pea Soup. I can is 18 grams of protein. Also, adding 1 cup soy milk to my coffee (breakfast for me these days). I have a lot of restriction still 2 weeks post op. I can have even less than a cup if it is cold.

Beans and lentils pureed also have a lot of protein and adding shredded cheese.< /p>

Thanks BabyGotBack, creamy pea soup sounds like a wonderful idea and I have some lentil on hand too. Smilliegal

They are suggesting I spend the night when I get mine done because of the sleep apnea thing.

Glad everything turned out great...

Did you on your way home from the hospital buy a new outfit 4 sizes smaller?????? :)

Steph;

I have been reading through messages for you online becaused you mentioned you are concerned about getting enough Protein during the liquid only phase immediately after you surgery.

Go buy Protein Powder 1 scoop = 30grams of whey protein and thin out some yogurt or chick broth or whatever and it is suppose to be tasteless.

Let me know~~~ I am just repeating some of what I have read over these websites I am addicted to regarding lapband.

So, I had my surgery on Thursday. I was really nervous and scared because Justin could not be at the hospital until after I went in for surgery. Thankfully, the doctor was delayed due to the weather. I never thought I would be happy about being delayed...but Justin was able to get to the hospital before the doctor!

After it was done, the doctor said it couldnt have gone any better. I was in alot of pain: the gas pain on my left side, the Co2 pain in my shoulders, incision pain, morphine headaches....everything hurt and I was in tears. That was Thursday and part of yesterday. Today, most of the bad pain has subsided but I am still a little sore.

I am only able to eat about 4-6 spoonfuls of broth or liquid and I am SO full! I was worried how I was going to be able to meet my 64 oz/day Water requirement. My doctor told me that as long as I am urinating 3 times a day, than I am getting enough water. Check. Now I am just worried about my Protein. How in the world am I going to get 50-60 grams of protein a day if I can barely even eat? Does anyone know of a decent protein product that I can mix with my water?

Anyway, every ounce of pain is well worth it so I am NOT complaining! I am down to 218 so I am so thrilled and I need to update my ticker! I know that the pain will slip away in the next coming days, so I am practing patience for now!

Well, that is my update for now! Thanks for everyone who really helped me along the way! :clap2:

Hi Steph..Congratulations!!! I hope it goes smoothly!!!:) For protein my nitritionist recomended any whey protein powder. I use the EAS Whey Vanilla flavored...it tastes like powdered milk. I usually mix it w/ ice cold water, skim milk or now light soy milk (thanks to BGB) The powders come in many flavors...I also use Unjury (this is the best tasting hands down) (www.UNJURY.com) Good Luck and keep us posted!

Good evening, all! I was doing a lot of organizing and sorting and did not realize how time was flying, when I started feeling ... Hungry! So, I stopped and fixed some cream of Tomato Soup. 25 minutes and 3/4 cup later, I was ... Full! This is so weird! Can this continue? I sure hope so.

5 days post-op and I am pretty much back to normal. I have a weird feeling like I have a belt on my lower ribs. It's not painful or anything, just there.

Hi BGB,

I went back to school later in life..34 and got both a BSW and MSW and am now in private practice. I love it. And I do believe the social work degree gives you more options in who you can work with. For some reason, we are regarded more highly by insurance companies.

Shawn

WOW!!! That is great! I had origningally wanted to get my MFT but also heard like you are saying, that you have more options getting the MSW. Thanks for the encouagement. I was supposed to start back around the time of my banding, but thought two life changes at the same time would be too much for me to handle.

I am supposed to start registering for classes soon and have to talk to my counselor.

Do you have any other advise for me??? We have so much in common! I so excited to meet you!!!

Hello everyone, its official, I'm now with the band! I just got home about an hour ago from the hospital. I had a few complications, but nothing major.

I had my surgery at 2:00 pm yesterday. I'm still pretty sore, can't get out bed without my DH help. Just took another pain pill, so hopefully it will kick in. They kept me in the hospital and finally released me tonight. My blood sugar dropped really low, so that is one of the reasons they kept me.

I'm mainly sore around the port area, and still have some of those gas pains.

Anyhow, I'm headed back to bed, just checking in to let everyone know that I made it!

Welcome to bandland!!!! I am glad you are doing okay! Get all the rest you can and don't forget to drink liquids. I went to a support group today and they were emphasizing that mamy get dehydrated which makes them hav too much restriction and then they have needed to get an unfill.

Congrats!!! I am having the same problems of getting enough protein and water since two weeks post op I am still very restricted. I sip all day on liquid or else I can not get the liquid in. I use cream Soups with high protein like cream splite pea, soy milk in my coffee for Breakfast, drinkable yogurt. I have to be eating all day to get the amounts in.

Hi folks, I got back from Denver last night, mission accomplished. I have now crossed over into the light. Dr. Kirshenbaum and his staff were great. My surgery had to be postponed a day since my blood was still too thin from the Coumadin I take for a separate health issue. So, I had the surgery on Wednesday. (The one-day postponement gave us time to see the Denver Art Museum, which was great!).

I'm definitely glad to be home. Traveling through airports and flight connections two days after surgery was not great fun. But today the pain is not bad at all. Just that feeling people describe of having done 500 situps. The incisions themselves are not painful, and I've had no gas pains or shoulder pains at all.

Since Tuesday night, the night before surger, I've had nothing but Water. So I guess it's time to start exploring the exciting world of broth.< /p>

Thanks to everyone for all the great information and support.

Talk to you later.

Mark

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
