January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Well, I get banded on January 15th. They had to remove my gallbladder in the process, so my recovery has been a day or two prolonged than what I had first projected. I have lost 8 pounds so far though, so it's cool. The only thing about it is that they filled me with air and I have had hell with its movement from my back to chest and sides. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate them. Anyway, I am a part of the lapband circle now, and very excited to be. Thanks everyone for the pre-support!! Definitely needed it...

Hi Andre, congratulations and welcome!

There were three things that helped me with gas. Gas-x (chewable), walking...and more walking, and a heating pad.

Other then that...time. In time, it will all either be expelled from the body, or absorbed by it.

Good luck, keep us updated on how you are doing!

Hi Everyone! I have had trouble logging in for the last week but finally got that resolved. I am being banded next Thursday, Jan 25th and couldn't be more excited...and nervous too. But that's normal, right. :nervous

I want to tell you all how awesome this forum is to have. Audrey...you are too cool for words. Because of you I am so inspired and motivated! :clap2: I can't thank you enough. I even switched Dr's last week because of all the great things you've had to say. Yep! Lori got me in with Dr. Ortiz! Coolest part is that I'm originally from San Diego and family still lives there so it's a perfect fit! I truly appreciate all your advice, honesty, and courage. Let's keep in touch and we can meet down there for fills! :rose:

I haven't told anyone except my Mom and my husband but yet I feel like I have a whole group of friends supporting me because of this site.

My husband is deployed and I'm going to be going to surgery alone so if anyone else is going to be banded by Dr Ortiz on the 25th feel free to shoot me a note...it would be nice to have someone there to be nervous with and share some broth with after surgery at the hotel. :)

I bought chewable Caltrate for Calcium and they are really good. Just purchased chewable Centrum, liquid tylenol, Gas-X, chicken broth, etc.. Getting prepared. What else should I have on hand for my surgery?

A heating pad for gas pain, I also bought liquid Tylenol pm, gatorade, Vitamin Water, crystal light, and Better that Boullion and for the first three days.

After that you will need creamy Soups in all different flavors, premade shakes, I like Silk vanilla soy milk, V8, sugar free fudgesicles, drinkable yogurt to name a few!!

Sounds like you have a good start. I also purchased sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello and some type of Protein supplement. For the clear liquid stage, I started with Isopure Protein Drinks. At the hospital they gave me some samples of Injury powders flavored and unflavored. Those were really good. Also there is a Protein Drink that has 20 grams of protein in 2.9 oz of low-cal clear liquid called Profect, but I think you can only order that over the internet. I just got some delivered to me today and those are easy to get down.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Oh yeah, from bariatriceating.com I bought nectar protein drinks in Fuzzy Navel with Water tastes like Tang and strawberry Kiwi mixed with Silk Vanilla Soy milk tastes like a milk shake. They have so many flavors. I ordered a sample of each one ($1.75 a sample)

No way, lady! LOL! I must have a box full of tagged clothes!

In fact, last summer I finally went through the boxes and boxes of smaller clothes that I've been hanging on to forever. We're talking sizes from 10 to 18! I sorted through all of it, got rid of the stuff that was out of style, kept the rest, sorted it by size, and labeled it. I can't wait to get down to an 18 -- I'll have a whole bin of new clothes to open!

Maria

I have clothes too put away that I have been waiting to fit into. My cousin also gave me clothes that I saved to fit into one day.

i banded on 1/11/07.Not bad some pain but good .iget gas ,is that common .then i get pain on top of my shoulder.when does that stop.does it ever

My worst gas pain was the first 3 day and it gradually subsided after that. I am 13 days post op now and have no pain or discomfort of any kind. I have heard of the gas pains in the shoulder from a lot of people and my doctor. That is normal. A heating pad is supposed to help and walking. It has to work itself out of the body. Maybe some peppermint tea!

I totally agree with you. Also banded on the 15th, and as far as surgery goes it was very pleasant. I had a private room, hardly any pain at all, sore now but all in all not a bad experience.

The question about eatting in only 20 minutes.... my nutrionalist says to take at least 30-45 minutes to eat.

Yeah, mine was so pleasant it was a vacation for me. Very relaxing!!!

Hi everyone,

I was banded a week ago and I am wondering if anyone else have their port site right at the diaphragm; under the rib cage. Dr. Madan (EXCELLENT) said he places all the port sites there to keep the port from flipping.

Be BLESSED!

Hi Sheila! I was wondering how you have been doing!!! Mine is under my ribcage to the left of the center of where the ribcage comes together. Is that where yours is?

Hi everyone, just checking in and checking up on everyone.

Congratulations to all who were banded this week! Can't wait to hear how you're doing.

Babygotback, you are a great addition to this thread with tons of information and support. Bandida, Sunshine, and others as well.

As for me, I'm doing good. I got out for the first time since surgery yesterday. Went for my post-op check up and was told I could pull the surgical tape off of my incisions. It took me a while (pure fear) but all of the incisions were closed up nicely. Three are so tiny, like pin pricks, that they are just going to disappear.

Of course the port incision will not, mine is LONG, but it won't be an ugly scar either. :)

Here's my big news... I had lost 10 lbs since last Friday (my surgery day). I go back in 3 weeks. I won't weigh again until then. But, I have started taking measurements, and I think I'm going to do that weekly.

I've just for the first time found out what full really feels like. LOL I have no intention of surpassing that feeling anytime in the future.

Well, good luck to everyone who is still on the list for banding. I'll try and check in more frequently, so that I can share in the conversation more.

Thanks Chris!!! My incisions are not covered by the surgical glue anymore and look really good too. Congrats on the weight loss!!!:rose: I have not weighed in yet. I love the feeling of full too! I had never really known what eating till comfortable felt like. But I now know what eating till almost PBing on a liquid feels like and it is nasty!!!

Congrats Andre!!!I have heard only walking and a heating pad help with that pain. I didn't have the shoulder gas pain due to vomitting right after surgery. It forced most of the air out!

:(:) :) You are making me feel so good today!!! I am glad that I am giving as much as I feel I also get from you guys!!! Now I don't feel so guilty for being on these boards so much!:guess I would love to meet for fills! I live in Rancho Cucamonga, so only about 1 1/2 from San Diego. I am going for a fill, unless I still have restriction, on Feb. 16, 2006.

You can also go to lapbandforum.com It is Dr. Ortiz's site and a lot of patients coordinate surgery times to meet. I met someone on there too pre surgery.

Keep in touch and I'd love to meet sometime?? Where do you live?

the Fudgesicles come in a yellow box and are Popsicle brand. They have sugar free fruity flavors too. The liquid tyleno pm I bought in case I had more pain at night, which I had to use a few times at Albertsoms (market) The Better than Boullion I bought at Albertsons, but I heard they have a website? They are soooo good!!! They are made from real chicken and meat and taste like you made a roast, the beef one is roast beef, and like you got some of the tasty liquid!!!:hungry: I also bought Wolfgang Pucks gourmet boullion. I buy Glacial Milk liquid vitamins from Sams Club. You can also do a search and find them. They are so packed with nutrients. If you scroll a little ahead, I posted the ingredients to them. They don't taste bad and are tolerable, but they are not tasty. They have so many things in it to support weight loss that I don't care what it tastes like!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
