January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

I get banded in 3 days. January 17th :) Yay!

best piece of advice i got--as i was leaving the hospital the next morning--"ask for some painkiller"--that REALLY helped me out on ride home and while waiting for prescription to be filled!

good luck on your surgery!

oh don't worry, I will haha. But thank you! I'm excited because this pre-op diet they have is killing me. I haven't had a real meal in 2 weeks. Slim-fast is terrible!

Hi Sheila!!

How are you doing? I am feeling really good! I don't know why I don't get a mushy stage. I get to go straight to solids on day 22, but I would love to have some blended Beans and rice or lentils!!!!

Audree

Hi Audree,

I'm doing good, considering the gas pain. It's trying to go away (thank the Lord)! I'm ready for the next stage which is puree, then mushy and FINALLY solids!

pretty "good" - and pretty hungry. have a liquid stage that's supposed to last 2 full weeks. don't feel like i can stand it that long. have a post-op appt on wed for esophogram and then the dr's office--will ask if there's something else i can eat--at night i am RAVENOUS. have some slight burping--don't know what that's from--optifast? diet iced tea? Water? ?? what are you eating??

I called my nutrionist and told her I was starving and weak. She approved me to have liquid yogurt, Protein Shakes and cream Soups. I don't get a mushy stage for some reason. I also had sugar free Jello, sugar free fruit pops, Better Than Boullion, Wolfgang Pucks gourmet chicken broth. I bought a bag of Soup seasoning where you are supposed to add chicken and stuff, but I just added the water and had the broth. It was sooooo GOOOODDDD. I bought the Tortills soup.

The thing that has helped me the MOST and I can not stress it more, I was on the verge of taking my appetite suppresants, I was soooo hungry, was constantly sipping on some water, crystal light or tea. That is what has kept me with a constantly full feeling!!!! And I love it. I have not needed to take my appetite suppresant yet.

Hi all,

I'm catching a plane for Monterray Mexico tomorrow, an all day journey. I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday the 15ths. I have such a peculiar situation. I orginially planned/scheduled this with Dr. Sanchez. Well, he apparently was murdered by some robbers as he was going to his ranch to pay his employees. The anesthesologist (or however you spell it) was the driver and the one who I had corresponded with.

So the liason is via Belighter.com and Ann Marie. I have a general idea about who is doing the surgery, hopefully a Dr. Trevino, but he is with the Obesity Control Center, which is different than the Dr. Sanchez organization. His credentials are fine so I feel good about that. He works with Dr. Rumbault.

Anyway, I'm not nervous as I'm pretty prepared for this process. I am doing this long journey on my own, to Mexico, but have total family support about the surgery and process afterward. Just kind of strange circumstances.

Stephanee- thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I have lost all grandparents and both my parents and am an only child. My son is now having huge difficulties with his asthma so it looks like my hubby will have to stay with him tomorrow instead of coming with me.

I feel so alone and am wondering if I have made the right decision.

Lala- it's natural to be scared. I to have been going back and forth with the decision, but I have a HUGE FAITH in God and I know he would not let me get this far if it wasn't meant to be. My journey through the process has been fairly easy compared to others and I know He has a lot to do with it. I am also an only child and mu husband is my only support. Keep your spirits high and your prayers will be answered!! We're with you in thoughts and in prayers:pray2: :) !!! Keep your chin up and keep us posted!!!!:gluck: tomorrow!!!

I was glad to see that others haven't told their kids and friends. There are only 2 people (besides the medical people) that know about my surgery and that is my husband and one friend. I didn't tell my sisters, daughters, employer or any other friends. I took off a few days and hope I can pull this off at work starting next week.

Audree, I had the exact same thought before surgery about not telling my daughters. I guess it was just panick.

Doing pretty good today. I absolutely love my Magic Bullet. I take any Soup, remove the meat, and puree to mush. I have some 4oz plastic storage containers (from Walmart) and fill each one. For a meal I can take one container, add Water to thin it out and heat in microwave. Yummy! I've tried the vegetable beef soup, homemade cheese soup, beef stew. They don't look so good but taste great. My doctor has asked me to not eat beef, chicken, lamb or pork until 5 weeks. Fish is okay though.

I am not able to each much more than 4 oz before I am FULL! I hope this feeling lasts until the first fill.

Each day gets better. I take GasX regularly and use my heating pad. Have been able to take 2 walks a day. I heard that will help with gas pains, I hope so. Sometimes I just stand in the shower and let warm water spray on my left shoulder.

I haven't put anything on my scars because I still have the steri-strips.

Thanks for all the support here. You bandsters are wonderful encouragement.

lala - We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I had told several friends about my surgery but because I had to be there at 5:30 am and it is about 45 minutes away, I had a friend drive me up there the night before, stayed in hotel and took a cab to the hospital. So if your hubby can't make it to the hospital, you will be fine. It goes by really quickly, I promise! You will be busy doing the pre-op stuff and then you are so out of it right after the surgery, it will feel like time has just flown by.

Keep us posted on how you are doing - this is the RIGHT decision! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
