January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Hello All! Well tomorrow's the day. I have to be at the surgery center at 6:15am, and surgery is at 7:15am. Please keep me in your prayers, because NOW I am very nervous. I spoke with the Pre-Op nurse earlier today, and the anthesiologist is supposed to call me later tonight. I'll make sure the mention the "gas" thing to him and see if he might be able to help. I should be home sometime around noon tomorrow, and depending on how I feel, I'll touch base. Tomorrow, I join the band!!!

Ok- I'm supposed to be banded on the 15th and woke up on the 7th with a major cold/flu thing. I'm SCARED!!! This has been a 3 YEAR process for me, I've already taken a week from work and now I'm SICK?!

Anyone with any advice?

That sucks lala. You still have a week to go, maybe it will get better. I've heard docs will do the surgery if it's just a cold, but it can be a problem if it's the flu. I guess you don't want to be throwing up and all that. Your best bet right now is probably just to do everything you can to get better, and it's probably a good idea to get in touch with your doctor. If all else fails, I'm sure they'll reschedule very soon.

Get better!

Hey all,

I got some disappointing news today. Over the last month, my WBC has been on the rise. Well, it's finally high enough that my doc wants me to see a hematologist to figure out what the heck is going on. At this point, there is no way they would do surgery on me. Luckily, my surgeon is AWESOME and she got someone to see me on Friday. I couldn't get myself an appt for another two weeks! So, hopefully all will go well and I can keep my surgery date. Otherwise, God only knows what I'm in for...

I saw there were TONS of people getting banded today and tomorrow. Can't wait to hear how you all are doing!

Lala, know what you mean. I have 3 boys....an 11 year old and 7 year old twins. When the surgery date was set and they went back to school after the holidays I stressed how important it was to wash hands and not drink after each other because Mom couldn't get sick. Well, last Saturday one of the twins started running a fever....has strep throat. Guess what I came down with today??? A fever!!! I have my yearly gynecologist appt. tomorrow and the anethesiologist and ekg. so hoping someone can give me something to stop me from getting any sicker. Thankfully I have 8 days, 11 hours and 14 minutes (not that I'm counting!!) to get over this fever! After everything we've went through to get to this point I'm certain that it's meant to be.....it's better to be sick before the band then the week after the surgery right?!?! Think positive!!

Hello all , just checking in. I have been reading about most of you having to do a pre-op diet of Clear Liquids 1 to 2 weeks beforehand , and it got me thinking my pre-op diet, so I checked my paper work that the DR. sent and I could not find it. So I called to find out about the diet and was surprised to find out since my BMI is not that high , I don't have to go on the diet.:clap2: :hungry: I will try to be good while were on our cruise next week and try to eat salad's and other good food:rolleyes: . It looks like I might be the only guy here on these posting is this true ?:nervous Well, its OK if it is:) The wife said its time to start our cruise packing:tired so gotta go, Ted

Banded yesterday. Just really sore in stomach area. Have dull pain in upper left shoulder. Up and around just fine. Plan to go to work on Thursday. Crushed pill thing is really nasty. Will have to work on fixing that. So far not hungry because of the gas and slight soreness on the stomach. Wish me luck. The holes are really small no bruies and port site is ok. I'm amazed at how easy it was. I got my surgery at Cedars in La with a Dr. Cunneen. Really good staff and hospital.

Hi Mae! I sure will. Here's tip #1. I was just telling my family that if anyone ever asked, I'd tell them the following.

When I went to pick up the drink, they asked me if I wanted vanilla or chocolate. I asked them what were the comments they usually heard...

She told me that she usually hears that they are both horrible...but better if cold. Then she said drink it real fast and I'd survive.

I'm here to say that the Chocolate is dreadful. The vanilla isn't the best, but much more manageable. If you're given an option go for vanilla. If you're a risk taker, get a chocolate or two...but trust me, the Vitamin flavor comes out real strong with the chocolate.

I'm surprised the nutritionist didn't mention it to you. Did she give you the dietary requirements for post surgery? It must not have been the mandatory class that you have to take before surgery.

LOL at your "Hart" reference. I'm still kicking myself about not getting the prescription filled that he gave me prior to the new year. My insurance starts fresh every January, and now I have to pay full price for the blood thinner. At least it's not too expensive. I'm just not very interested in giving myself a shot.

Congratulations to everyone who is newly banded! I'm looking forward to sharing with you as we start this new chapter in our lives...

I finally got the gas I have heard so much about. It was awful for about 3 hours or so. I now have this uncomfortable pain on the lower right side of my belly, kind of above my pelvic bone, I guess. I originally thought it was gas, too, but it hasn't passed. I'm praying something happens with it tonight while I'm sleeping. Being away from home and feeling weird pain makes me nervous. Otherwise, I am doing great. Drank all my fluids today like a good girl. Ordered a small cup of TCBY and threw away 4/5ths of it before eating it. Not bad.

Good luck to all those going for surgery today. We'll see you tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
