January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

I have not even weighed in and don't know if I am. I would rather have a pleasant surprise than be disappointed. The fact is for the first time in my life, I know I WILL lose!!! I read you really shouldn't focus on the weight loss during this time before your fill. We can retain from surgury and all of those high sodium broths, therefore not really getting the true weight loss number anyway. I am also going to measure myself!!!

You're doing the right thing, I am doing the wrong, but it feels so good to be able to get on that scale and see the weight drop off. I was just watching MTV True Life: I am on a diet. There was a girl about 5'6" maybe, 24 years old, 253 lbs. With the help of a nutritionist and trainer, she lost 38 lbs in 7 weeks. Stuff like that makes me second guess my decision because that is actually something I did not try. Oh well, too late for that.

Good Morning fellow Banders,

I am proud to say that I will be getting banded on January 15th, 2007. Very excited!!!!!! My insurance just began paying for the band on January 1st, 2007, so I received a call yesterday with a day for my banding. I had previously been in another forum, but am happy to have learned of this group with individuals who are or will be experiencing this when I am. :)

Welcome! We appreciate new comers. I still go onto the December thread to follow up and get some information to see how they are all doing but there were some nasty posts back and forth about keeping certain people out of the thread. That was weird to me.

Well today is the day I have to quit smoking. So for so good. I don't know how it will go after I eat something. My doctor told me I have to be smoke free 2 weeks before surgery. Is there anybody in the same boat?

Did anyones Doctor advised to do Slim Fast 2 weeks before? My Doctor told me to do Optifast 2 weeks before. That stuff is a little costly. I am doing Slimfast, I hope that does not mess things up. I just think they want you to loose 10lbs before surgery, so it would not matter how you loose it. Does anyone think differently?

Hey Chris (Inner-me)

I am also up on Friday, getting a little nervous but more excited. Who is doing your band?

Good luck to you Bandit Day Buddy!

Sara

Hi Sara! I'm in Illinois (as a group of others appear to be).

I've added a siggy...I think. LOL

I'm having it done by Dr. Kane, Jr., in Elk Grove. I believe there is someone else posting to this thread who is going to the same center...

I'm BEYOND antsy at this point... I keep having highs and lows. Part of me is worried they're going to push my date back again, part of me is worried they won't...LOL.

I'm ready, though. I'll be even more excited come the beginning of March, when I know that I'm healed and well on my way.

Don't second guess yourself!!! I have lost weight on my own very successfully many times!!I am a professional dieter, expert on almost everyone and can drop weight once I set my mind. The thing I NEVER mastered, was keeping it off. I got a band because I KNEW I can NOT keep it off. I love food too much and when I am thin, I think I am like a thin person and my issues somehow vanished and I eat whenever and whatever I want.

Thus, the weight packs on with a vengence!!!!!!! You made the right decision. What is the percentage of people that lose weight on a diet??? 95% regain it !!!! I am a living testimony of that. I have lost from 240 to 145 TIMES!!!!!! And I started regaining within a week and actually knew I was gaining when I blew the crotch out of my jeans because I was gaining so fast!!!!

I would check with your surgeon. Reason being that it could be the different nutrients that are offered in Optifast (if I'm thinking of the correct supplement) that aren't in Slimfast. You know what...I'm thinking of Optisource....Optifast may be okay. It's another basic version of Slimfast isn't it? I'd still check with your surgeon first, though.

I know that my surgeon has us drinking a special "surgery recovery boost" supplement twice a day for 7 days (actually 8 days prior to surgery, because on the day before surgery we have to do liquids and a bowel prep). I hope it helps, because it wasn't cheap.

I don't smoke any longer, I quit nearly 5 years ago this upcoming March. You'll be thankful you quit before the surgery though. Coughing afterwards is tough for a few reasons. I had been coughing shallowly up until about yesterday. Wait til you have to sneeze lol.

I was one of the lucky ones who did not have a pre op diet. I spoke to my nutritionist beforehand who told me that reasons for the diet vary from shriking liver size, additional weight loss and getting people used to eating smaller portions of food or the liquid diet. You should speak to your doctor if you choose to deviate from his diet plan, he may have reasoning behind it...or just stock in Optifast lol

Thanks for the information. One Doctor here said Slimfast, my Doctor said Optifast. They want me to do 5 optifast and one small meal a day. Optifast has 7 packs in a box for 15.00. I think that cost too much. Thats almost a box a day. I think I will just stick with the Slim Fast. Its not that much difference in the two. Thanks so much for giving your opinion.

Hello all, I'm doing a quickie drive by to check in. I'm swamped at work and a little stressed. I know we have new bandsters, and we had some surgeries Monday and tons of surgeries today. Lets keep them all in our thoughts today....(even though I'm stressed, i'm thinking of you guys going thru the surgery).

I'll try and get the list updated sometime this week. I'm behind on reading all the post - haven't read any since I think Friday. wow.

Anyhow, talk to everyone later -

I have missed you! I am doing very well and feeling really good this 4th day of post op!! I am also using this time to as a fasting and praying time, so I am doing double duty!!!!!

As for today, I feel a lot of restriction. Two bites of cream Soup was too much for me!!! Breakfast was just coffee and soymilk.

How are you doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
