Fiyagirl 0 Posted January 9, 2007 I'm kinda down today. I was banded 1/5/2007. I have no restriction. My doctor told be to do liquids for 48 hours and then on to soft food. I ate a regular serving of oatmeal today. I feel no restriction when i'm eating. I'm doing well, but it's because i'm choosing to stop, not because of the band. It's kinda discouraging, especialy since I have to wait 6 weeks for a fill. I don't know what I'm going to do untill then.
TxPeaches 0 Posted January 9, 2007 After reading about what everyone is eating, I'm a little concerned for myself. Today is day 7 and I'm still not hungry. My dr has me on Clear Liquids for the first wk and full liquids on the second. A typical day is sipping on crystal light all day, 2 oz of beef broth 2 a day and maybe a popsicle. I will throw in a Protein Shake but it will take me 2-days to sip it down. The WEIRD thing is that I'm not hungry. I'm so afraid to overeat when I do start to take on real food. I have dropped 12 lbs since 1-2-07 and my recovery has been amazingly well. Any thoughts?

angelburch 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Hello all -- As I read through these posts, I find it so interesting that each experience is so different. Some people don't get any restriction what so ever until they've had a couple of fills, some aren't hungry and have to force themselves to eat, and others have good restriction and can eat well. Also, the pre-op and post ops diets are about as varied as everything else is. I'm on Day 6 of clear liquids and it's amazing to think that in just 36 hours, I will be in surgery getting mine. I'm beginning to get nervous. Not about the actual surgery (I've had 3 surgeries before), but about what it's going to feel like once I have the band. My surgery is scheduled for 7:15 Wednesday (1/10), and I should be home by around noon.
KLo 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Hey Fiyagirl, I am not banded yet but from what I have heard, the first 6 weeks is to focus on healing and recovery. THEN we can start to worry about restriction and losing. I know we are all anxious to begin but I guess now is a time for patience. Hang in there - it WILL happen! 5jacks 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Audree, as a new bander, could you tell me if you can "feel" the band just doing everyday stuff? It's hard for me to imagine that a foreign object can be in your body and you not know it's there. I don't mean feel it with your hands I mean can you tell it's there without trying to find it with your hands.
5jacks 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Okay, that last post should of been to all the bandsters....would love everyones input!

cinward2001 0 Posted January 9, 2007 I don't know what I'm going to do untill then. Fiyagirl, you're going to take one day at a time until your fill. :welldone: That's all any of us can do...work on today because we can't control tomorrow and yesterday is gone. Yes, if you thought that you'd have restriction right away, then the initial time after banding can be disappointing. But focus on small changes. You DO have the band...that can be a source of hope and strength right there. Instead of facing a lifetime of dieting without help, you have to get through 6 weeks. Just 6 weeks. And honestly, if you don't lose a pound during this time, that's ok, too, because the MOST important thing you can do is let your stomach heal. Try to make good food choices. Start following the bandster guidelines now (within your doctor's instructions on what to eat when)...try to focus on Protein and veggies, eat slowly, chew well. Start exercising if you can, even if it's taking a walk outside. Drink lots of Water. Beyond that, try not to worry about it...things will start being easier once you have restriction. There's a popular phrase...Ride it till the wheels fall off. :welldone: Meaning that, if you're not hungry, great! It won't hurt you to stay at a low caloric intake for a while. As long as you're feeling good, drink what you feel like drinking and ride it 'til the wheels fall off. Cindy

BabyGotBack 0 Posted January 9, 2007 It is so funny how different doctors have different post ops. Dr. Ortiz just changed his. It is now only 3 weeks of liquids (first four days clear, liquid yogurt on day 4, Protein Shakes day 5, cream Soups day 7) and on day 22 you can start on solid foods. So for me, I need to stop being a baby because I can't have my cream Soup until Friday!!!! I have been feeling sorry for myself!!! I only have 3 weeks to go till I can eat "normal". My nutrionist said divide the plate in 4 quadrants, 1st quadrant is Protein (very finely chopped), 2nd quadrant is veggie, 3rd is fruit and 4th is healthy carb. The middle of the plate has to be some form of healthy fat. She also said no protein shakes. Better to have solids than liquids, for example the new Kelloggs Protein meal bars. For dinner I had broth, chamomile tea, crystal light and a sugar free pudding!! I felt a little better after that, but it still put my to about 600-700 calories today. I was feeling very week.
