shakur154 55 Posted February 22, 2013 I'm embarrassed. This is day 5 and I have cheated every single day. Nothing heavy or loaded with sugar but still that's not the point. I have salad with regular dressing, seafood salad and granola bar. Maybe I'm not ready:-( I'm I the only one?
Bowgirl 19 Posted February 22, 2013 My surgery is scheduled march 6. I should have started the preop diet also but I haven't really. I guess I use the fact that my Bmi is 32 as a excuse. I keep thinking that 7 days before I will start a full liquid diet.< /p>

Chris R 217 Posted February 22, 2013 What king of pre-op diet do they have you on? For how long? Are you talking long-term pre-surgery, or immediately pre-surgery? I had to lose 8% of my body weight before I could even see the surgeon, but I was on 1000 calories a day for 2 weeks prior to the surgery, then Clear liquids only the day before surgery. It's really important to stick to it, as it helps burn the fat off your liver. That's the first place your body holds onto it, but it's also the first place it will burn it from. It will make the surgeon's job a lot easier, since he needs to be working behind your liver. The Clear Liquids only the day before is even MORE important - you could risk infection or worse if they cut into a stomach that's not empty! Remember your goal - it's only a short period of time! KristieAtkinson 589 Posted February 22, 2013 If you must cheat, my dr said to stick to eggs, meat, cheese. ZERO carbs please. This is important to shrink your liver for the surgeon to pick up out of the way. Some instances of unshrunk livers have resulted in liver laceration by the tool they use to lift it. People have died from that. Please try to stick to diet as best you can. I know it's hard but you can do this! But definitely cut the carbs. Much love. ❤
shakur154 55 Posted February 22, 2013 I'm on a two week pre op diet. They didn't say I had to lose a certain amount. I'm suppose to be on a liquid diet. I can have no carb veggies and Jell-O and Protein shakes....

I believe my problem is that I'm not drinking enough Protein shakes. The doctor said 5 a day and I'm only getting in 3 a day. Tomorrow is a new day and I Definitely don't want to make me a high risk for surgery.

Watch the hidden carbs on those salads (dressing!) and those bars you are eating are carb loaded.
JenC 90 Posted February 22, 2013 Are you looking for a spanking or support? Only you can decide if you are ready or not. But consider this...If any of us had full control of our eating we would not have had the need to have this surgery in the first place. So no, you're not the only one. Be assured you will have a much greater ability to make better choices after you have your sleeve. Try to look at the pre-op not as a test of your will or ability to control your food/fat/calorie intake. Try to look at it as something you are doing to help ensure a successful surgery for yourself. Many docs require a pre-op to shrink the liver so it won't be enlarged and in the way during your surgery...endangering you. I don't know your body weight or condition of your liver but your doc will when he opens you up and since you're going to be on the table it would probably be best if he/she was able to proceed. Some docs don't even require a pre-op with a lower bmi. Mine didn't. Thank goodness, because before having the tool of the sleeve I eventually gave up on every diet I'd ever been on. Tommorow's another day...just get up and try again...that's all you can do. Luck to you!

KristieAtkinson 589 Posted February 22, 2013 Yup! Get those shakes in. I make mine as pudding or with a lot of ice like ice cream so I can eat it with a spoon. Makes me feel like I'm actually eating food if I can eat with a spoon! Glad to help any way we can. We are all in this together. No worries about failure! After surgery, you will be fully on board! :-)
