I'm sure this is been asked before but I am just starting the process and am wondering how much time people took off work. I am a nurse and I work 12 hour night shifts I have 2 jobs and support a family of six so I can't take a ton of time off. I am hoping to only need two weeks off but I am worried about complications and needing more time off because of them.

Hi. I have desk Jo. So only off a week. Did part tome second week and been back full time since. It is hard to determine. Some folks here say off a few days and others 6 weeks (by choice).

Good luck !

I had a desk job and took two weeks but could have gone back in one- but if you are lifting or rolling patients and on your feet all shift you are going to need a lot more! Like 4-6 weeks. Talk to your doctor unless they will put you on desk/ paperwork. You will probably feel okay after a week but no lifting!!

I have enough support from my coworkers that I would be able to have help with lifting and rolling patients I'm just worried about the 12 hour night shifts and exhaustion.

Everyone is different some are able to start back working in a couple of weeks, it also depends on the type of job you have are you moving around alot or a desk job.

Generally it's anywhere from 2-6 weeks being the average max. I have a desk job but I had complications arise the day of my post-op appt. to return to work and I ended up having to stay out for 6 weeks.

I have a desk job. I took off 15 days. My first day back, I was tired before the end of the day. But the last two days, no problem.

I was told 2 weeks. I'm a teacher. I planned my surgery around one of the school vacations, so I only had to miss one week of classes. However, my surgeon told me I can't lift anything heavier than 10 lbs for several weeks - so as a nurse, as someone above said, if you have to be lifting/rolling patients, maybe you can get light duty...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
