starting the process

Recommended Posts

I am 32 years old 5ft8 280lbs. I have been thinking about this for about a year but just started telling my husband and doing research a month ago. I have been lurking for about 3weeks! I originally was looking at the band but my insurance doesn't cover it so I started researching the sleeve seems like it maybe a better choice. I completed my online paperwork and seminar and today I received my orders for blood work and they will also be sending me information on my pre op appointments I am excited and nervous and just want it to be over so I can start living again. I have four kids and I'm tired of feeling lazy and not being able or wanting to do anything with them

devonmae...I only started seriously researching my options a couple of weeks ago. But I started looking for before/after stories and I am convinced this is for me. I also have 4 kids...they are still little and I can't really go outside and play with them. I don't want them to grow up and be sad that I couldn't be physical with them.

So anyway, a nice gal on this forum private messaged me and told be about Dr. Garcia and passed on some advice about other surgeons, and long story short, I've made my flight and downpayment and am scheduled for surgery March 29. I'm like you....once I decide I want to do something there's no turning back!

Devonmae--like you I went searching originally thinking I would do the band but after really searching decided this was a better choice for me. I am scheduled for February 28th and on the fourth day of my preop diet and very excited but nervous as well. I am 52 and have 3 beautiful grandchildren that I want to see grow up and play with like you, instead of watching from the couch. I dream about all the things that I like to do or even just want to do around our place and it has been so hard being so heavy. I am so ready for the change and looking forward to it! Good luck with your new adventure!! It is great to have others to talk to here, also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
