what is the best birth control method

Recommended Posts

I use nuvaring and LOVE it' date=' so far (5 1/2yrs) on it no surprises and I don't have the hormonal issue I had with the pill.[/quote']

Is the nuvaring one that you insert yourself or does the doctor do it ( like an I. U. D.)?

My cousin is fertile Myrtle. She had three kids one after another. She then got an IUD and didn't get preggers for 8 years. She re-married and had it removed. She's pregnant for the second time in 2 years!

I just use ugly pajamas:)

I'm on implanon' date=' it's a small rod the doctor inserts into your upper inner arm. It lasts for 3 years but you can get it out whenever you want. I am almost up to my 5th year on implanon (had it changed once) and haven't had many problems. The only think that bothers me is that I have really irregular periods. Sometimes I don't have them for up to a year, sometimes I'll have them off and on for 2 months.

I have pcos too, that didn't affect my choice of contraception though[/quote']

My gyno had mentioned this as an option for me, especially since I am notorious for forgetting to take my pills. She said something about they numb your arm before putting it in? I am a huge wimp, was it painful to have done?

Baaaaaaad experience with Mirena. It did its job, but too many crazy bad side effects with me.

Yes it's the one you insert yourself. Kinda looks like those little plastic/rubber bracelets the kids wear lol.

Easy to insert & remove.

Implanoni is what its called. I had irregular periods all my life, and I thought the implanon would cure that. Fooled me. I would have one for 5 days, then stop for 2, back on for 2 weeks, then stop for a day. But when I first got on it, I didnt have a period for 4 months straight. My sex life sucked for the 2 years I had it in. It was effective though. I dont know if that was because of the implanon or because I was only sexing for 7 days out of the month, on a good month.

I have the implanon too, haven't had a period since April last year. My dr used local on my arm and it was wrapped with a compression bandage for 2 days. I couldn't feel it at all when I was fat, but now that I'm skinny, I can feel if really easily. It was reassuring knowing that I wouldn't be bleeding at the time of the op or recovery. I've had 2 pregnancies while on different pills so this was better for me.

Thank goodness for this thread! I just stopped my pill 2 days before surgery. My Dr. Didn't really say yes or no as to taking it. He asked if I could dissolve it in my mouth. I said I don't know I never tried. So I just decided to stop it and get something new. Anybody use an IUD?

I'm so scared of accidents.

I meant to say copper IUD. I would love something that has no hormones!

I have tried them all lol but I have stuck with the nuvaring... I actually really love it. The implanon had horrible side effects for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
