I found what helps me is stocking up on sugar free popsicles. It's somthing that I can chew on. I'll be honest, I did cheat some the first 2 days, but by day 3 I was able to stick to it. Luckily I only have one week of it. Just take it one day at a time and you'll do great!

I'm on day four of a 21 day preop. I've done lengthy liquid diets in the past, and just know that the first three or four days are the hardest. Once you get through the first few difficult days, you'll be feeling much better and feel a lot less hunger. Today was actually a really hard day for me. I work in a convenience store and I wanted to EAT ALL THE THINGS!!! I was even a little surprised by how MUCH I wanted to eat, But I know from experience that cheating will just prolong the agony of this hunger and make it worse so I resisted. You can do this. You are not powerless over food. YOU have made this decision to take control. Just keep all the things that are on your preop diet handy and try to stay busy and keep your mind off of eating.

Thanks serendipity! Your words are really encouraging. I'm gonna need support from people going through the same thing, and I think this app was a good idea!

Take it one day at a time...I am also on my first pre op liquid diet and I just keep my focus when I feel like I want something that is not what I should be eating I put some type of liquid in there like sugar free Jello, broth with a dash hot sauce, or sugar free Popsicle or a Protein Drink and it has been working. I also stay busy. You will do fine, just tell your self I can do this, I can do this and you will:)

Hi have to do a three week pre-op diet as well. You are correct the first few days are the hardest. I have never done a liquid diet and the first three days I was miserable. I even had flu like symptoms. However, I have been on the diet for a total of one week now only two more to go (besides the post op lol)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
